Oh trust me....I wanted to load them all up and take them home, but, they are in the best place for them. They have 24/7 vet care and are getting food and water. They are getting care that no one person or rescue could provide for them right now. Do I wish that they would all have homes for Christmas, of course. They deserve to be in a warm, safe, loving home. But, if they don't stay and aren't monitered all the time, they may be sick or not be able to provide the evidence needed to nail this piece of crap to the wall. There were so many dogs....Labs, Malinois, Belgian Sheperds, Am Staffs, Danes (oh God the one I saw....there are at least 7 females with pups....was so pathetic looking), Japanese Chins, and of course the GSDs that got all the attention drawn to the case (a good thing). I guess when the dogs are released my friend Kim may be taking 3 or 4 into her rescue since she is a DOA approved rescue, but, I don't know that for sure. They may all have homes by the time they are released from impound, which is part of the sticking point with the GSD rescue because they think they should be rehabilitated first.

I can't tell you how hard those employees were working when we were there yesterday. I was amazed. Like I said, I've never been to a place like that....600 kennels and cages everywhere. Oh and I didn't mention that they had a pot belly pig, some geese (who promptly started talking to Mike), a chicken and a rooster, LOADS of bunnies. They have a room set aside solely for wildlife too.

I just read the board from the GSD site, and I'm sick!

It sure sounds like those dogs that are being adopted now.... are going to be comming back in a few months! Or like someone on that board said "After a few months, most of these GSD will have come out of there shells, and the owners will not have been ready for it, and they will spend the rest of there lives chained to a tree in the back yard!!!"
They are not checking backgrounds or anything on the people that want to adopt these pups!!

The shelter is going to be like this again in a few months....
    with all the same dogs!!!

    How sad!!!!

We will be seeing some (not all) of those dogs again, in rescue, I'm sure. On the bright side, some will be going to good homes.

Molly, I have been gone all weekend, and just read your update. Thanks to you and Mike for doing all that you did, and especially to you for sharing the good information on the shelter.

Those precious dogs will remain in my prayers.

Well, Logan, just remember, it's just my opinion. Time will tell if I'm right or wrong. We were glad to help. It always does a heart good to see your work reap some benefits.

KitKat, that's really nice of you to offer, but, as far as I understand, the only people who will be able to take these dogs will be Dept. of Ag approved shelters. I heard somewhere that they would also only give them to shelters in IL. I would suggest that you call the shelter and ask for Linda (leave her a message) and let her know that you're willing to help.

I would if I had long distance, I'm in Oklahoma. My hubby voulenteers at one of the urban shelters here, I at a suburban shelter here. We take in animals all the time, get them checked out by the family vet, and when they are ready, find them good homes here...

Molly, please read p. 11 on the GSD bb http://www.germanshepherds.com/ubb/u...40;p=11#000271
I told you there was a "great room". That is what I saw on Thursday.

I guess I didn't totally understand the post, but got the jist of it. Like I said....we CHOSE not to go into some of the rooms. Those dogs won't be released for adoption, I'm sure. Some may be way too far gone...too sick. I don't know...I'm just too tired tonight to argue about it. I just hope it all works out. I still say there is another part to this that is not being told...on BOTH sides.

Here's the story from today's newspaper. There was a picture with the story in the newspaper that shows a corner of the great room with the cages piled two high, however it is not in the on-line story.
