I too have been chased and actually attacked by a dog, as well as bitten by another dog ..... but I don't hate either of the breeds. Just very wary of them.

You are right, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I really do not think anyone here was trying to be "better than anyone else".

Anyway, the post was about your least favourite breed - and as you can see, everyone here had an opinion too. Unfortunately the "hate" word seems to get people's backs up.

... and as you said "maybe someday I'll love the breed".

I'm gonna repost what I put in my original post:

Have you ever been chased for more than a mile by a dog nearly double your size, mangy lookin (it's fur was completly dreaded, somebody really did not like this poor dog), foaming at the mouth, snapping at you heals... coming so close that as you ran your heels where hitting the bottom of the dogs jaws... for a child walking alone it's rather intimidating.

Yeah, I'm gonna hate the breed. The memory has brought me frightful nightmares over numerous years. Am memory, one of my earliest, that I just can get rid of.

While my husband and I were at a dog show recently, for the first time since this incident I actually got enough courage to go up to the chows who were on their way back to the bench and petted one. He was a sweetheart, but, I still trembled in fear. And seeing the picture above has actually made me start shaking, yeah he's cute in a picture, but, for me in person, it's a different story.

So get over yourselves. Before you start thinking your better than everybody else, maybe you should ask why they say something.
Good grief! I don't think anyone was attacking you personally, so please don't get your panties in a bunch. You did post your opinions, and people responded to them. That's what a message board is all about. I think we all can understand why you're scared by Chows......we don't need to be insulted and called names.

Hopefully you will eventually get over your fear and I'm sure we all wish the best for you.

That's right! No one was attacking you.
I was just stating that my girl would be one of the dogs that could make you change your mind because she is such a sweetheart
    That's all nothing else.
    So don't get so defensive.

I dont hate any breeds, but I dont like labs, never have. their are labs that I have met and loved but I would never want one. the reason is that they are solid colour(I much prefer my doggies have markings) and that they love everyone, they are too happy and overbearing and I am not a terrier person, I have 2 terriers but I dont get along with them at all, I get along with herding breeds best so I thing I will stick with the herding type, athough I might ventur out to a NSDT Retreiver someday

Brie- You said "Maybe someday I'll love the breed". Anna offered a picture of a very sweet chow-girl who could maybe help you change your mind. And then you attack her (and myself for agreeing that the dog is sweet). How does that make anyone "so rightous?"

I'm sorry about your bad experience with a chow. I can understand why they scare you...but no one meant to attack you.

just been reading all your interesting comments regarding breeds of dogs you most dislike.
I dont own a dog , just the two cats, but have grown up on the farm with border cross collie dogs, they are gentle lovely dogs, all animals are special and beautiful, i could never hate any of them.
I used to dog sit for a cocker spaniel named ben, he was a real sweetie, but take him on his leash for a walk and if he saw another dog it was a different story, he went crazy, i got to the stage i was too scared to take him for a walk, his owners moved not long after and i no longer saw him.
Now of breeds the pit bull terrier has a bad reputation here in nz, they are often used in gangs ,and staged dog fights, its really disgusting, its often the owners who make these dogs vicious not the poor animal, do you have that problem in the states?
We had a recent case here where a little girl was badly savaged by a dog, her face was a mess and she faces years of surgery, the two owners received 3mths jail and had to pay each 2000 dollars to the parents, this will never cover her surgery costs, and her suffering.
The worst part of this all was in the end they think it was a different dog, and this poor dog was of course put down. to cut a long story short they are never allowed to own a dog again, but the good thing that came out of something so tragic, is they adopted two lovely cats.
Our dog laws need to be addressed here sharply to protect innocent people and the dogs too.
I personally love the siberian husky dog, they are magic, i love their amazing eyes. a little tropical here in nz for them i think but they seem to survive and thrive.

Yes, unfortunatly we do. Pit Bulls are too often used as fighting dogs, trained to attack other dogs....every now and then you hear about dogs being stolen as "bait dogs" to train this animals. It is horrible what people do to certain breeds.

If I were to have to say I didn't like a certain due to being scared because it bite me or chased me, I would have never owned my german shepherd Reba (RIP) When I was three I was attached by a german shepherd and biten, When I was ten I was bitten by a Chow and no one could find him. so I had to take 21 shots in the stomach. Do I dislike chows, no A Friend of mine owned one named Jake, (RIP) he was the biggest baby, even up to the end, he never tried to bit or nip at us when he was in so much pain. If I listed all the dogs that have bitten me I wouldnt have much to chose from to be my pet. Working in a vet office I get bit alot. I love cats, and own them But last year was put in the hospital because of one. It bit the knuckle off my finger to the bone. Each breed has it own temperments, You have to know what the temperment . Scent and Sight hounds are usually hard to walk due to if they catch a scent the chase is on. Same with sight hounds. Every dog will have something that you will not like about them. Most people here seem not to like the poodle due to grooming. I can understand that As owing 4 poodles, Grooming requires a lot of my time. But there are some breeds with a thick short coat that requires brushing and grooming. Rottweilers, huskeys due to the undercoat they have. I quess being raised around different dogs, I have a love for all. The only bad dog is a bad human owner. Dogs are no different than people, they have to be taught. Just as we teach children. You send Your child to school. So send the dog to school. People are what makes bad breeds. I could write about all the so called bad breeds that come to our clinic that are not bad at all. The Pits, Rotts, Dobies, etc. But I quess I better quit typing or it will be a book. I like all dogs, purebreed or mutts. ( The All dog Breed)

I really don't like shaved dogs like shaved poodles or Chinese Crested Dogs. I mean, I like poodles, just what people do to poodle show dogs.... *shiver* it's scary

Chinese crested dogs' hair is actually naturally like that
I don't really like the shaved look either. I mean, it would be nice looking, but I just don't like the way they shave the hair on the head, and then fluff it up...it makes the dog's face look differently-shaped... ....I tend to go more toawrds the natural haired poodles..they have such nice fur, and it's so pretty when it's all there
    I've been BOO'd!

Hmm..I dont think I could see myself owning any breed less then 50 pounds. Just for the fact I love big dogs! I am also..vary weary of Chow Chows...one attacked and killed my cat a couple years ago...but i dont hate the breed.

tough question...I don't hate any breeds..I just don't see myself owning quite a few of them...mostly they're in the toy group...I'm really into the working group though..I don't see myself owning a small dog. When my mom decided to get a sheltie, I was pretty pissed off cuz I wanted a dog no smaller than a border collie...but I grew to love the breed...so who knows..

I can't say that I HATE any breed! Actually I seem to love all the breeds that others are scared of. Rotties, Pitbulls, Akita, Dobies, chows, german shep, etc.

I was bitten and chased by a half wolf half german shep dog when i was little.......but then again I did take his bone away from him and he had a reason to bite me...........
