Well, I guess I'm a little late getting into this topic. I've always only had Miniature Schnauzers - small dogs. However, I've never met a dog of any size I didn't like. I adore our neighbor's Rottie - and another neighbor had a wonderful pit bull terrier who would lick my face and escort me up the road if I went walking. If I had the room I'd have both kinds - large and small - and as many as I could afford to care for. That may come about as we are retired now and moving into the country!! We have rescued a huge Doberman and a Rhodesian Ridgeback and kept them in our yard until we could find homes or their owners. They were great dogs. Got along great with the resident Schnauzers as well. The funniest sight in the world is watching our neighbor's huge Rottie (he weighs 120 lbs and his head reaches my waist) play with our Schnauzers - they have a grand time together!!

Even if they do not have a medical condition that is treated by a vet a very large proportion of these dogs suffer during their lives. The very idea that an animal descended from the wolf hasn't got the breathing capability or the legs to jog with it's owner is, well, I will be thrown off this site if I say what I really think!!!!!!!
Wow Carrie, that's awfully harsh. You don't seem to know this breed very well. All dog breeds have some type of problem. Yes, pugs do have some breathing problems and many can't "jog," but all the pugs I have met were warm, sweet, funny dogs who brought lots of joy and smiles. Not everyone jogs!! Pugs are perfect pets for an older, more sedentary person. Please don't be so negative. All dog breeds have something to offer someone. Big or small--DOGS RULE!! My little Cavaliers are sweet, loving, playful, and fearless. They can walk all day if you want to or snuggle with you on the couch. Love those Cavaliers!!!

I like big dogs but I don't really have a reason I just always have liked big dogs.
