...RIP, our sweet Gini...
I agree that black cats tend to be (maybe overly) affectionate. "Chip" my black Siamese is the funniest most silly boy.
He's a "fine, fine feline" as I tell him all day, and "he's crazy, and I'm crazy about him"! His response to me is a gurgly noserub...that boy never stops talking. And what's not to love about my snaggle-toothed, half a front legged, one eyed Skippy? I'm soooo glad the vets didn't pull his fangs out when he had dentistry...they only add to his non-stop charm.

There is one drawback to black cats (only one mind you) they are hard to photograph, but easy to love.![]()

I'll have to add pictures later, but I will echo what everyone else has said. Our two blackies are great cats. Saphirah is a true daddy's girl--absolutely loyal and devoted. Samson is the best lap kitty that either of us has ever had, and he was a stray that wandered into our yard and hearts one day.

LOL... A black tabby.
I don't adopt non-tabby cats.![]()
"But what is a black cat?. Genetically, black cats are tabbies. The gene that causes the banding we associate with tabbies has a non-banded form, so cats that are black with this form of the gene have no banding between the tabby stripes, masking the tabby pattern. This essentially means that he coat has black stripes on a black background."
Now some pictures of my black beauties......

I have to disagree with this one because finding them in snow, I would think, would be similar to finding them in a "white" house. Remember when Tubby got "lost?" Where is he?Originally posted by jenluckenbach
9. You can always find them in the snow.

And since a thread about blackies isn't complete without a picture of Tubby, here is where I found him, reveling in the sun while hiding from meowmy.![]()
(oh how I miss my big boy
)
Oh, and I'm not surprised that they are the last to be adopted. Just check Petfinder.com and you'll see that the majority of cats for adoption are blackies and torties.![]()

She IS totally in love with me, and I, her. She follows me every place I go and is always flopping on the floor in front of me. She walks between my legs and is always, always, by my side! Talk about velcro kitty!
I love seeing all the other blackies!
P. S. Lucy is looking in at the bunnies, not looking out from a cage!
Why?Originally posted by jenluckenbach
1. They are the least likely to be adopted.

This is very interesting. It may explain why my black and white Hercule (at the RB now) had some stripes on the black parts, only visible to the sun. These stripes looked more or less "orange". And it explains why black or black and white kitties can have tabby mothers, and that the other brothers and sisters can all be tabbies.Originally posted by catlover4ever

I never thought that I would want a black cat, but when I first met my Sasha (an mostly black tortie) and she snuggled into my :::ahem::: cleavage, and immediatley started purring, I was IN LOVE! She is such a wonderful little girl, and keeps me laughing all the time. Next time, maybe I will go for all black! Who knows????
I love the list! And yes, black cats while being held make a person appear slimmer!![]()
My black boy Chester thanks you!
Here is an old picture of him. He's still as adorable and bossy!![]()

I loved the list, especially #8. But the least likely to be adopted? I never knew that. A black cat named Bear was my lovable companion for almost 20 years. I'll agree with QueenScoopAlot, however:
For proof of this, check the attached photo. There is one drawback to black cats (only one mind you) they are hard to photograph, but easy to love.

To all PT folks with those sweet adorable black kitties of ALL ages, please give them lots and lots of lovebug from me?
