I hate when people just blame the pits. They're really sweet dogs! Even St. Bernards can attack people. Blaming the pitbulls for all attacks is so wrong.

I highly dislike people that blame the dogs for their agressive behavior.

    Bigyummydog-

"Putting down a dog because people think they are killers. What about all the murderers on death row, that we have to shelter and feed year after year? Why not just put down all the people that kill other people and not worry so much about dogs. Dogs are not the ones doing so much damage. I know that dogs have killed people, because of the way they were raised. But, they haven't done even close to the damage that people themselves do. Why aren't we doing something about that? That's all, I don't wanna start getting ugly. Besides, we are gonna take our killer pit out to play. Anyone wanna come? We've got toys. "

I agree!! Why put dogs to sleep when they have been raised to be agressive and don't know that it is wrong when, people that can make their own decisions only get a slap on the wrist. It is
    REALLY unfair!

This is absolutely disturbing! I cannot stand any kind of judgement on a dog, without knowing how sweet they are. I work at a Boarding Kennel/Vet/much more, and our most common boarding dogs are Rotts, we had a tour come through the other day, and I was talking to her about how sweet all of them are, and then she said " OH!, I wouldn't wanna be around one of those!" OH I was MAD!!! We have had a Am. Staff. come in, but she was very dog aggressive, but loved people. We have had to very darling Am Bulldogs, 3 chows (only one mean, we aren't sure whats upsetting him, he only likes/tolerates me, attacks the cage at everyone else....) ONe of our Receptionists breeds pit bulls, she is the one that gave me the link I posted awhile back. I don't like her way of breeding though. She is kind and her pups are kind. Her stud growled at me and snarled, but I think he was just stressed, one of her females was a sweetie. BUT, she gave into the typical look of the breed, and places large spike collars on their necks, personally, I think its bringing the breed down, to make them look tougher, that makes people think they are mean....hmmm.....maybe just my opinion, but wanted to say something, let me be quiet now, I could vent on this subject for hours, ans I need to head off for work.....
Oh and I recently adopted a Chow, and the vet at work was like no no, oh god no, a chow????? oh was I pissed, stereotypical judging of the breed again, she is a doll, sleeps in the bed and all!

Awww, he is always soooo cute, he has his "banky and teddy bear!" I have seen his pictures several times,he is always adorable, but honestly, many people still fear them, you all know that, and I still am not sure why they do, and yet I have been biten at work by several Shih Tzus, and a Corgi/Chihuahua mix, but never a pit, of rott, or anything like that. Makes me wonder....... I wish there was a way to fix the problem of ignorant people and annoying irresponsible owners, but honestly, I think there will always be a problem, because SOME people NEVER learn, URK, drives me crazy. I saw on TV a long time ago where two rotts got out of their yard and attacked a boy, and automatically, they started ragging on the breed, and yet it wasn't their fault....hmm....maybe people want to be afraid? BUt still why???

One can go insane trying to find the differences in the two breeds, but there aren't any. A show bred Am. Staff can look exactly like a show bred Pit Bull and they can be duel registered as either breed. Nothing was added to either breed to make them different. The AKC recognized Pits Bulls back in the 1930's but changed the name to Staffordshire Terriers to disassociate themselves from dogfighting. Physical appearance can be slightly different depending on who's breeding. A show bred Pit or Staff will have bigger broader muscles while a working or fighting bred Pit will have leaner, toner muslces. Ear size varies depending on why they wanted it cropped.
I agree, they shouldn't make a big deal out of the breed that attacked, they should focus on why the attack happened and how responsible or irresponsible the owner was. Any dog that attacks now days, that even slightly resembles a Pit Bull, will be called a Pit Bull because people don't really know what a Pit Bull looks like.
Love is Adoptable. Adopt a Pit Bull.

Don't Breed or Buy While Shelter Animals Die.

If Pit Bulls are outlawed, only outlaws will have Pit Bulls.

From my time in the dog show world when I showed my collie, this is pretty much how I understood it after chatting with some other show people when I asked about it as I found it confusing. It can be confusing and you can read around and have people say yes they are or no they aren't, but the fact that they can be dual registered pretty much means that basically they are. From the history I read about Amstaffs, it is like you said, people wanted to disassociate the show/family dogs they were breeding from "pit bulls" so the AKC officially recognized them as Amstaffs instead of APBT. Fighting line pits can look different from show bred the same as racing greyhounds look different from an AKC show greyhound, they are bred for performance rather than to a physical standard.

About every 7 to 10 years the news media picks a different breed to sensationalize on, I can remember at time when it was shepherds, dobermans, followed by rotti's and now the pitts, in a few more years there will be another nasty breed in the news.

I've never had a pitbull, but I've known people who have had pitbulls, am. staffs., and different types of dogs that people ignorantly group together as "pitbulls", and most of them have been the sweetest things ever! If one is mean, it was the way they were trained. I don't believe that certain breeds are mean, individual dogs (of every breed) are mean because they way they were raised.

I really hate the DADE law, prohibiting pits!!! they should prohibit criminals instead.

iÂīm not from USA but it really pisses me off when i see ignorant people blaming these poor creatures that only want to please us in any way, so if you want them to please you by doing bad things, they will, but only by PEOPLEÂīs command, not by their own choice.

Even a Pom, Poodle, or Chihhuahua (just to make a point) can be as agressive as a big dog the only thing they lack is size, but why blame animals, blame the people who own them and make them go the wrong path.
