What angers you most about your dog behavior

Yorkster. Tess is 4 Mos. old and about 85% housebroken. I say 85% because Tess is not at all patient, when she has to go, she has to go and I better be on my toes to see the squiggley, wiggley body language or else!!! Yesterday she had a poo accident on the carpet. I was upstairs cleaning her crate. Not a good thing, but not a disaster either. The food I feed her keeps those little pooies nice and firm and easy to pick up, but I don't like her doing it none the less. The cat litter thing is another story, that DOES MAKE ME ANGRY, worse than pooing in the house. I guess its because it's so disgusting and since this is my pet peeve, I go to GREAT lengths to keep her out of it

Purrley- Maybe you could put the cat box in a room and have a cat-flap door put in the door? I am thinking about it mainly because Scout goes in and raids the cat food quite often.

It sonds like Tess is doing pretty good with being house-broken. She is still young.

Hello, just wanted to ask what type of pet was your
first pet, Cat or Dog, (other) ? Also have you ever had
cats & dogs at the same time before ? Asking b/c my dog
Bud went after "cat crunchies" long before I ever had
kitties. He would find it outside in the yard, or on walks.
While it is gross to our minds, Dogs Love IT....That fact
will never change... I think my own worst pet peeve would
be having a dog that ate it's own poo.I know it happens
with some dogs(not mine thank heavens), but I would
probably find that habit to be one I could not live with,
and try really hard to change the dog's mind about...

Well, I wasn't going to post on this subject,
but yesturday I got a bit sad/mad.

1) The number one dog behavior that I truely dislike
is that Rocky is dog aggressive with strange dogs.

2) The 2nd one is that he catches and kills wild
little animals.
I found a plump dead squirrel in the back yard yesturday.
I do not know how he catches a fast squirrel but it
make me so sad. None of my other dogs
have ever had a strong prey drive like he does. : (

I can't think of any real bad habits for Sheba.
Pepper is pushy and a begger.

Hi everyone I'm new to this forum even though I've been visiting the site for almost 2yrs now (I think) Anyway, I was reading this thread and yes, my dog eats kitty litter too, even though he doesn't eat the poo. What he does is pick grains of litter off the floor and chew them, which makes me so mad but I can't seem to do anything about it. He just threw up yesterday because of eating cat litter though... I hope this will stop him!

Lizbud - my first pet that I can remember was a cat. I grew up around cats (mainly Siamese) and I have 2 Siamese cats now. My dog is the first one that I can remember having. I did have one when I was 10 or 11 and I do remember him, but my parents were the main care givers. Tess (my Chi) is a challenge, but as the days go by we're getting to know each better all the time.

question. I grew up with no animals in the house,
but made Friends with every single stray cat & dog
within a 2 block area of my home much to my Mother's
dismay... I'd sneak them into the house every chance
I got...LOL.

Hmmm let me think about this, it's different with both dogs. What sort of makes me mad about Smudge and don't get me wrong I love him to death is
1.He doesn't always come when he's called (We're working on that, actually just finished a class that worked on his attention and his recalls it helped a lot)
2.When we're at trials if my dad's there he'll run off the course to hide behind him, nerves I guess but it can be really frustrating and embarassing.
3.doesn't know that no means no at least when it comes to playing with Winter.

Of course with Smudge I have to remember that we did sort of rescue him and he has some issues still, of course they aren't as bad as when we first got him. Now with Winter there's a whole different set of issues.
1.Eats poop and then tries to kiss me, she actually tried to bring it in the house one time.
2.Will start to bark at Smudge if he gets to excited, I know it's her instinct to do that but it makes my mom mad and can get just plan annoying.
3.Constantly wants to be petted or kiss me...or anyone for that matter.
I think there's another one or two for her but it's the same thing I just have to remember some of her history and then I calm down.

Crikit - Welcome to Pet Talk. Smudge sounds like a normal all around doggie. The poop thing makes me laugh because that's my biggest peeve with my Tess - so far she's just preferred cat poop but last night she went after her own I was hoping this wouldn't happen, now I gotta watch her really close at potty time.

Welcome to pet talk crikit, I know the poop thing is really embarrasing. Thank god Leika doesn't do that. What she did do today that really freaked me out was that she startes smelling a female dog while she was peeing if she had come a little closer she would have had pee on her face!
Crikit, My last dog Ringo was worse than smudge he would run away and when I would chase him he kept running away. He also used to jump at me and do you know what it's like to have a Labrador standing on your shoulders that wights more that 30 kg!?.
I'm so sorry Purrley that Tess eats cat poop, just keep an eye on her. Maybe she's hungry enogh to eat poop!!! LOL just joking.

Well Smudge was a heck of a lot worse when we first got him which was about two years ago. We think the people we got him from abused him or something like that because he had some issues, still does but they aren't as bad. But what do you expect from a dog that had like three or four owners by the time he was four months old (that's when I got him) So after dealing with the seperation anxiety the extreme mistrust of strangers the fear of people in winter coats and stuff like that we have it down to just the two or three issues left. Though he still has the seperation anxiety but usually only when we're in strange places which I really don't blame him for because well I'd probably do the same thing

Winter on the other hand you can leave any place as long as it doesn't have a lot of people or loud noises, those two things get to her. We think it has something to do with the fact that someone (not the owners before us but the people that they rescued her from, the previous owners just had to many dogs and thought it would be better for her to leave the hectic house) locked her in the garage because she was the runt of the litter.

I think what bugs me about Daphie Doo is she's sneaky.It matches her looks though- shes shaped like a weasel. She slithers into the kitchen late at night and knocks over the trash that's on top of the garbage and pulls it down...We make her goe outside (which she hates to do at night) and she KNOWS not to, but she does it anyway. and she sneaks downstairs and eats cat poo....But she makes me more angry at the fact that she sneaks and does it and knows not to, not as much as her actually doing it...

My two year old dog eevee use to do the same thing. She was queen of eating poop. My vet suggested I get some yummy liver and with gloved hands pick out a fresh poop in the litter box, let her smell it and place it on top of the litter. When your dog goes for the poop tell him/her to "leave it" or "Dont touch" in a controlled voice and give the dog a piece of liver. Any time you see your dog near somthing that should not be touched say leave it and give a good tasty treat or fav. toy. Otherwise your dog could be a little hungry. Cat poop contains a lot of undigested food that is why it is so tasty. Thank god eevee is litter poop free for months now.

I just wanted to say that it is possible to train dogs to stay away from cat poop. Reece and Harley were both REALLY attracted to it, but with a lot of patience, I never had a problem again (except one incident with Reece when he saw a foster doing it and figured it was allowed again ). I also trained a long-term foster out of it.

My dogs don't do anything that makes me mad ever. They are angels Even when they do naughty things, I've never been mad. Lolly has her issues, but being abused for 6 years would make anyone have issues. Reece had the WORST case of seperation anxiety I've ever seen. It took us about 2 months, but he's doing so good ever since.

Patience, love, and the correct training methods can break just about any bad habit. Or with other dogs such as Hannah and Daisy, you have to use outright bribery!!!!
