    Chihuahua's all the way.

That is all I have ever had.

All dogs are great, each breed or mix has their own plusses and minuses, and almost every dog can be a great match for the right person.

That said, the answer that popped out as soon as I read this thread's title was:

Sheba! The doggie I grew up with, she was maybe a Shepherd/Doberman mix, maybe Shepherd/Rottie. A slightly bulkier German Shepherd. In any case, she was the best, smartest dog in the whole wide world. She taught me so much, like looking both ways before I crossed the street, like it's okay if the older kids won't play with you, you still have Sheba dog, and I have never met a better dog. She made a dog-lover out of the man across the street who "didn't like dogs," she protected us if we kids were outside but parents were inside, she kept the neighborhood free of woodchucks (and anything else she could catch, she had a high prey drive) and um, even improved the genetics of the neighborhood cats - the smart ones, the fast ones - those were the ones who lived to reproduce. (Sorry cat folks, no offense intended.) Sheba was the best (non)breed of dog ever.

I've had lots of dogs...I suppose that my favourite breed of the breeds I've had would be the German shepherd dog.
    I've been BOO'd!

When I was growing up, I always wanted a big dog. My dad, bless his heart, took me to look at several different breeds, the most memorable being a St. Bernard! I also kept trying to convince him an Afgan was the dog for me. Poor dad. I don't know if he was just humoring me or not, but I thought it was pretty nice of him to go through all this, even though we never got any of them.

One day at school, there was this stray mutt running around the grounds. The minute I laid eyes on him, I knew he was going to be my friend. He picked me out of all the other kids and followed me everywhere. I heard that they were going to call Animal Control to pick him up, so I lied and told them he was mine. They called my dad at work while I was sitting there in the office and just as I had hoped, he went along with my story and the let me take him home.

What an amazing he was. He looked just like a medium sized sheep dog or some type of terrior mix. Lots of blond fur all over the place. I always had to keep his bangs cut, so he could see!

I had him all the way through high school and took him with me when I moved out on my own. He never needed a leash and would stay by my side wherever I went. I could even leave him outside when visiting friends and he would wait patiently on their front porch. Obviously I was not the responsible dog owner that I am today but things seemed different in those day I guess.

Anyway, since then I have only had greyhounds and although I would consider them to be my favorite breed, my first mutt deserves credit for being one of the best.

    Mutts rule!

My Rotti's have been my best dogs in every way. My favorites used to be American Cocker Spaniels and Sheppard/Collie mix. Not many dogs I couldn't fall in love with though, but will always have at least 1 Rotti male.

It is hard to choose.... But in the end it is a tie between German shorthaired pointers, labs, and Toy fox terriers!

Dachshunds are by far the best breed I've owned. Second to collies and aussies, can't decide between them and then beagles I owned a BC mix before and he was a very nice dog too! Mutts are also great, I've owned a few in the past and they were all wonderful dogs but they aren't technically a breed soooo.....

This is a tough one. I have had a Daschund, Dane, Sheppard, Mutts, Springer and Boxer. I would have to say my rb springer and the boxer. They have sooooo much personality and they are extremely smart. They are/were so loving and affectionate.

PBM's (Pure Bred Mutts)...are the BEST in my book!! I'm involved in rescue and they are what we strive to save. We call them the forgotten angels.
