Smokey took his meds last night & this morning wrapped in a piece of braunschweiger. He even ate a few dog bisquets. No
real food unfortunately. He went to bed (in the big bed)
around 7pm & stayed quite all evening. I kept Maggie busy with
a few new chew bones so she wouldn't bug him. He seemed
exhausted & didn't want to play at all. He acted a little better
this morning (more alert) but still wouldn't eat anything.

I'm hoping the vet will be able to tell me something positive
    tomorrow.

p.s. It was so cute, when Smokey went into bed, Maggie(who's
not allowed in the bedroom yet) curled up and took a nap in the
hallway just outside the bedroom door.

The Vet check Smokey out again today. They took more blood
and checking his temp, etc. Doc said the blood evaluation does
not show any dramatic changes. Still high on white cell count.
He's still concerned (so am I) that Smokey still isn't eating. Doc
gave Smokey a bowl of wet food in the office, but Smokey didn't
want any of it. I'm supposed to continue with the anti-biotic
& he gave me some sulfasalazine to take 2x a day also.

The Vet wants to see him on Friday morning again. He told me
to tempt Smokey with chicken, cheese, baloney or anything else
that he once liked as a test to get him to eat something. If this
fails, Smokey will get an x-ray to check for blockage. Smokey
does seem more alert & perky this morning, so I'm hoping if he
stays on the meds a few more days, it might make a difference.

It's quite a scene at our house at feeding time, Maggie will eat
anything not nailed down.LOL and I "beg" Smokey to try anything.

Please keep sending up with prayers for Smokey. He's lost 4 1/2
    lbs. Liz.

Prayers on the way for you and Smokey!

I know when I want my dogs to eat, all I have to do is open a can of Tuna Fish! All I do is put the water on their food and it's GONE!!!!!

I can truly empathize, Liz. Hugs. I've cried many a time in the past with Killian. At one time he lost 15 lbs. in 2 weeks when liver disease was first diagnosed.
Braunschweiger sometimes works, salmon with oil, peanut butter, tuna, cheese....
Good luck on finding something. Which anti-biotic is he on? Sometimes that will give him a stomach ache.
My heart and prayers are with you and Smokey.

Oh, no! I just found this thread and as I was reading through it, I was hoping that by the time I got to here, the news would be that Smokey had regained his appetite. The weight dropping so fast is what Hannah experienced with a few days of not eating as well when she was in the veterinary clinic several years ago. At least Smokey is staying hydrated and as soon as he feels a bit better, his appetite should return. I hope you are able to get the medication down. We all send our love.

Smokey, sweetie - please eat for momma. She's so worried about you.

I keep a couple of the little cans of mighty dog. The only time any of them get it is if they've been sick and won't eat. They a spoonful a couple of times a day to tempt them.

Lots and lots of prayers coming your way!!
