Thank You, kittycats_delight for my new siggy!!!
Is there any way to find out how the kitty does with other cats? I mean, that is the primary concern... some shelter have a "cat room" that they allow their vaccinated cats to live in. I have found that my older females get along best with the new intro cat being a male. Don't ask me why- my vet suggested it and it has always proven true! Maybe hormone smell? Maybe my perception only! Of course, my older single female was a "nasty" (hit other cats) gal so maybe that had something to do with it? Just follow the "rules" for introductions and I'm sure all will be ok. You know, separate rooms at first, smelling under the door (moosmom uses a shirt with new cats smell on it and vice versa to get other cats used to it during this period) Actually- she would be a good person to consult! Then put new cat in carrier and let your cat sniff around, let them spit for a bit then back to room, do this a few times, then face to face with water sprayer ready to separate in case of an all out fight (not if just little tapping stuff though). This could take how ever long it takes them to get used to each other, and it means being patient. Which obviously you already are! Keep us updated and pictures!
Congrats on your new kitty!!!Peter is such a handsome orangie and will probably have the best personality too.

Oh, good! I was afraid i was saying things you already knew! Well, again, keep us updated! PS, I never followed those steps exactly to the "T", I just did what seemed right! Cats upset? Separate! Till they get along. The steps are great though for cats who have never been exposed to other cats (mine have had repeated foster cats come and go over several years so I don't have the time or patience anymore!- I actually rarely do foster care either- last was a feral kitten about 3 months ago that has since been adopted!) Well, don't hesitate to private message people with specific questions- like I said, Moosmom has done lots of intros and would have good ideas!
Alot of the stuff you posted was stuff I didn't know, like the spray bottle thing, it's a great idea, and I bet it works great incase of a fight, but I wouldn't have thought of itOriginally posted by leslie

PRINCESS JOSEPH AND MICHAEL ARE CELEBRATING 19 YEARS AS LUCKY FOUND CATS
I know what you mean about pins and needles - I was bursting to get out of work on Monday to get my first cat 2-1/2 year old I bought from the shelter - I had to pick her up from the vet since they insist (rightly so) that the animals get spay or neutered. So glad she was home safe with me. We are really enjoying our new kitty cat and I'm sure you will be too - it is very exciting - I know you have one already but so glad you are adopting one from the shelter and an older one at that. Even the shelter I went to told me they don't ever adopt out the older cats - if any get adopted they are the kittens. Of course it was an animal control shelter that kills them within 3 days. Have a great time today!!! Give him lots of love and hugs and kisses from me too!Debbie
