I am so happy to hear Max is doing better!Cats are very particular about their litter boxes. They really are creatures of habit and changes in there day to day routines can really confuse and upset them , as you saw with Max. Could you maybe use the new litter but put in the old box that he is used to? That might make it a little easier for him to make the trasition to the new litter . Then when he is used to the litter you could try the new box with the litter.
I also hate to give my cats pills !I can't tell you how many soggy pills I have wasted because they wouldnt go down. You can buy these neat little gadgets at the pet store that make "pilling" your cat much easier. I dont know the name of them but they generally cost about 5.00 and they enable you to place the pill far back on kittys tongue without losing a finger! It does make the task of "pilling" a little easier and a lot safer.
Good luck with Max and I hope the antibiotics made him all better.
