I'm sorry such a hub-bub for an innocent comment. Sometimes words carry more power than anyone anticipates. Did you see Amercan Idol last night? The one girl said that she needed to bring out her "inner redneck" and I just about died when I thought of this thread (I was afraid to jump in until now) We say things in jest and no matter the intentions, there will always be someone who mis-reads what you say. Its not you, and its not the person reading the post... its a mixture of things. Nobody has the same sense of humor (if we did, it'd be a boring world.)
As for the phrase "redneck" I remember in 9th grade, a friend had a shirt that said "genuine redneck" and I had to ask her what that meant. After she told me, I said "oh, like we northerners have white trash?" LOL.
Its all words and phrases that alone don't mean much, but put emotions and preconceptions into the mixture and things can spiral out of control.
