dont worry shelly60. people around here are just very weary of people that want to breed their dog. we have seen so many dogs be put into shelters and put to sleep.

even though your first few posts havnt had good replies. i hope you stick around.

I've just been reading this thread, and, I wanted to say that I've actually seen a few maltese in shelters. It may be rare, but, it still happens. They're just as apt to get mistreated and discarded as any other dog. People spend a lot of money on dogs, and, that doesn't stop them from taking them to shelters or abandoning them completely. Just wanted to mention that.

    Thanks, Dogz!

I've volunteered in humane societies and shelters and have seen quite a few maltese come in. Mostly because people don't realise how much work they are when it comes to upkeep and grooming. And just because someone spends a lot of money on a dog doesn't mean that they're going to take good care of it.

I just think we need to concentrate on finding homes for the pups in teh shelters before we add even more to the population. More dogs get put to sleep at shelters because there just isn't any room for them. I happen to find my mutt when she was on her last legs there. It was pretty much her last day, if she hadn't been adopted that day, she was scheduled to get put down the next morning. I just fail to understand those who insist on breeding when there is already an over-population in the shelters. Breeding doesn't really benefit anyone except those getting paid. I know this may seem like a relatively narrow minded POV, but I've been working with animals since I was 15 and I've seen it all. I don't think I'll ever be in favour of breeding/studding if you aren't already established and if there isn't a REALLY good reason to do it. But, hell.. that's just me.

there are 2 CKCs that is why I had asked which one. continental does not have a good repuation I dont know why though, the Canadian kennel club however I personally consder to be WAY better then AKC, canadian KC does not support puppy mills for example AKC does, because thats is where they get most of there income, that is one of the reasons canada has by far fewer puppy mills then the states, AKC regster's by picture which causes many problems, for example if the the dog looks liek the breed but is a mutt they will be accepted but if the dog is purbred but does not look like what they consider the breed is "supposed" to look, they will be denied. get the idea?
