I do hate the couple aspect of it. For those of us that would like to be part of a couple, it just makes you feel bad for not having someone special. Especially when you have to work and someone else on your shift gets flowers. Makes you feel just wonderful. One year, Duke gave me a valentine. Now that was a special one.

I did the right thing by setting you free
But the pain is very deep.
If only I could turn back time, forever, you I'd keep.

I've always called it "Single Awareness Day."

I'm single, always have been single, and very aware of it.

I don't like Valentines day! But, I will be buying all my friends a brownie (what our school does for people on V-day) so that when they come hand them out they don't feel stupid being the only ones who don't have a brownie Hee hee! I also bought one of my friends who's nickname is Ape, and Ape that holds a banna that says I'm Banna's over you.

    Personally, I don't care for Valentine's Day.

Not because it's "lovey dovey", and I don't have a human companion to share it with, but because I really see no point in it.

Yeah ok, it was cute to celebrate in 5th grade, as well as Easter, Mom's Day, Dad's day, St Patties day... but really it's just another day anymore.

Although, I think this "L.I.E" stuff is a bit stupid (No offense), just MHO. Especially since most of you are still in your teens.

When I was single, A bunch of us formed an informal group called "Pathetically Single" and would all get dolled up and meet up for dinner on Valentaine's day. We'd give each other balloons and trade goofy gifts and then head out dancing.

One year we spied on our friend's date with the woman that is now his wife... we were wearing all black and stalking through the bushes outside his house! Of course he caught on, but it was all in fun!

I miss those Valentine's Days more than you'd ever know! Sure, my husband is great, but there's a high you get from being with your friends, all comiserating together!

Same with mother's day, and father's day. I think my parents should know that I love them everyday, not just on those particular days. But of course, that's just me.

Well, since you recognize you are alive everyday, should you stop celebrating your birthday?

We celebrate Independence Day, even though every knows the significance of July 4, Christmas, even though most people recognize the symbolism of Christ's Birthday..

AND, since when do we become too 'old' to celebrate holidays? It is a rememberance, a 'celebration', an honoring, whatever you want to call it. AND, if some people need an excuse to show their love (on any day), so what? I hope I am never too old to enjoy any holiday. For my family, it is an excuse to get together, a reason to call, a reason to send a card, when we might not otherwise. No one loves anyone any less if something doesn't happen, but, it is NICE! It feels GOOD! Enjoy it.

And, even if I am not knee deep in a relationship, it makes me feel so good to see my friend, my collegue, my coworker, or a stranger on the street, for that matter, experience happiness in the form of flowers at work, candy, a card, a hug, whatever. My social status isn't lessened because they are getting something I am not (and, NO, I am not referring to that..he he he).

It is all a matter of changing your perspective on it.

    LOL Di

Okay well first off I believe that love can be beautiful if it is real love. I only "joined" this for fun and yes it is pretty stupid but it is just for fun. I don't like the way people make it a point that Valentines' Day is only for couples. On Valentine's Day my parents usually gets us something and we make something for them. And this Valentine's Day, we celebrate 1 year and 4 months with Mickey. How great is that. I just "joined" out of pure fun. I don't think Love is Evil and I was so shocked when I found out that there was an actual website and cult called L.I.E. with people actually against love.

Just wanted to clear out "my membership"

Good point, Cataholic. You do need a day to really celebrate love. But as always, it has been twisted around into some commercial day to buy things. That I don't agree with.

It's about boyfriends/girlfriends because of the way it was started. Over the years it's spread to more of a holiday for love in general not just couples

You mean from the time he was cannonized as a saint? I am not sure you are completely correct....I think St. Valentine's history is a little more involved than being about boyfriends/girlfriends.

However, I am not Catholic (not even a lapsed one!), so maybe one of our religously educated will chime in?

Actually it did originate as a boyfriend/girlfriend thing.

It says here that's it's all about choosing a "mate."

    Think so? Read this one...

    http://www.pictureframes.co.uk/pages..._valentine.htm

I think you will see there has always been a steady mix of 'love' in the history...both romantic and non-romantic. St. Valentine, on his death's bed left a note...and it is that note leaving that evolved into the traditional valentine cards.....

I sure didn't know about the web site or anything and I'm certainly not that much against it! And, I wasn't referring to social status when I was talking about gifts at work, I was referring as to how I felt when it happened. I couldn't care less about my social status at work. I'm not that type of person. But it makes we s.a.d. people a little blah to know that we don't have that someone special to enjoy the day with. Hope that explains it better.
