Rachel, thank you for your update, I was hoping and praying for better news. You know how much we all love Miss Hannah and I can only guess what pain you are going through.
Your Vet sounds like a very nice caring man and thinks the world of Hannah, I'm sure he will do everything possible to help her get well. It's very hard worrying and waiting and we are here anytime for you, sometimes it helps to talk. Please know that we will be thinking of you and Hannah and Tucker and every positive thought and prayer will be coming to you.

Waiting is so difficult, especially while a loved one is ill. Lots of prayers and healthy hugs for you and Hannah! It sounds like there are still so many possibilities for what is making her sick, it must be very frustrating!

Keep hopeful, and remember, everything seems worse at night - so tonight try to distract yourself a bit, and get some rest. A few hours can make a big, positive difference, especially since Hannah's got energy and strength to face this trouble.

We'll keep your whole family in our prayers, and your medical team too. What a blessing to have a doctor that is concerned and cares about Hannah. Keep fighting, Hannah! We hope to see you home soon!

I'm going to print out all these wonderful messages so I can read them all to Hannah when she gets home. Each and every one of them makes a BIG difference. I went back to Sue's original post on Killian to try to get more familiar with some aspects about elevated liver enzymes, etc. but it was too upsetting right now. I'm kind of in a denial mode, still hoping that she'll get over this with the antibiotics and that could happen, otherwise he wouldn't be giving them. Her vet does seem to be very caring. He is a young guy who just joined the practice, but there are two other vets there with whom he can consult. When he calls tonight, I'm going to ask if he will fax me a copy of the lab report. Not that I will know what everything means, but at least I will have the specifics for future reference should I need it. I just hope she can keep the water down today, so she can come home. I miss her so much but I feel better knowing she is where she can get what help is available to her. This is going to cost a bundle, but there is nothing I would rather spend my money on than the well being of my dogs and now is when she needs it so now is when she will get it. It is so amazing how I knew immediately that she really sick, not just an ordinary upchuck. She communicated it to me so clearly and unequivocally. I saw it in her eyes. I really think she understands that why she is where she is too. My girl is a real smartee pup and, Bridget, you are right, she is one tough cookie. She will not give up.

Thank you for the update - I wish it were better news. Sounds like you have a wonderful vet and that Hannah is in good care.
I think you can tell Rachel] that you have a great support team here and lots of prayers are going out to your family (2 leggers & furkids alike). With all the positive vibs maybe things will go good for Hannah. Take care of yourself!

Rachel, I'm so sorry that the good news was followed by the scary sounding lab results. I know how your stomach must have sunk. But with such acute infections, those blood values really do soar quickly. I know the number sounds very scary. But also remember, the normal range does not start with "0" And we have to remember that she has been dealing with a very nasty infection, and everything gets out of wack very quickly with such an acute condition. The good thing is that her fever is subsiding, she seems pretty peppy, and hopefully she can keep some fluids down and perhaps a little food. And Rachel, the blood was drawn stat when you brought her in the first day. Her fever was higher and she was feeling very ill. I'll bet if they did repeat blood work today, they would see her elevated levels dropping. Rachel, we all know that nothing we say right now is going to cheer you up. We all have been where you are. And we all know how understandably numb and totally helpless you are feeling. And especially, how much you must miss her. That's the worst part. But hold onto the thought that she is getting great care from a vet who seems to care a great deal for both you and Hannah, and will take excellent care of her in your absence. The ultrasound will give him a lot more info. Try not to speculate on what the cause might be. It could be any of a number of things. Till, then, try and hang in there. And hang on to us and your family and the sweet Tucker man, and the "collar!" With the prayer and love machines (as Phred would say)
cranked up REAL high, Hannah just has to get better. We all love her, and you, very much. Love, Sandra

This is the first chance that I've been able to get at the computer. My son and his "Fantasy Football" friends took over all day!!

Oh my goodness!!!!!!!! I am really worried!!!! Those ALTs are quite elevated. However, with an infection, they do elevate. I am hoping that this is the case here. If so, they will drop after the infection is gone. The liver can recover. I can't believe that this is happening to poor Hannah. Right now, Hannah is where she needs to be, in the doggie hospital. Oh, I am so worried for you. We can't speculate til the infection is gone. Hopefully, that is the cause. I am really praying hard for you, Hannah and Rachel, too. This is so scary for you. I know what you are feeling. Be sure to ask the vet what to look for in any other symptoms. I can't say enough how much I am praying for Hannah's quick recovery. Please let me know if you have any questions about what I now know about liver disease. Keep us posted on dear Hannah. Hang in there. (I know how scary it is!) I am praying hard!

I spoke to the vet again tonight and he essentially said what Sue just said above.
Otherwise there is no new information. She is holding her own, still has her independent attitude, wanting to take the vet where she wants to go when he takes her outside. She also has him wrapped around her little paw already as he mentioned what a dear dog she is and a wonderful patient.
She wasn't interested in taking any water but he felt that might be because she is being hydrated through the IV. Tomorrow he is going to offer her some food to see what happens. Possibly she might come home tomorrow afternoon if she keeps the food down, or stay another day and do the ultra sound. At least I think that's what he said. My mind grasps what he tells me, but then after I hang up, everything kind of runs together.

Oh God Rachel.. I am so upset to hear about my cyber niece's condition, but sounds like your vet is terrific and very caring! You know Hannah is a Scorpio (late Oct, early Nov) and they are very determined and strong and will show their body's whose boss..just like everything else...LOL! Good on you for instinctively knowing her episodes were not normal and that you acted quickly...I love you dearly and I know that this is just killing you. I wish I could run right over and give you a big hug and stay with you. I'm no psychic but I just can feel that Hannah will be OK..she has a lot more nawtee dog things to do! No way can you get away so easily!!!! You know my prayers are always with you...xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxox Karen

Rachel, I am sorry I don't know more about these symptoms. I feel very reassured by Sandra and Sue's posts though. If you can't take her home tomorrow, maybe one of your friends who Hannah doesn't really know could go check on her? That way she might not get upset when they leave, and they can reassure you that your girl is okay. Of course, I am praying you will be able to pick her up tomorrow though.

Keep your food down sweet Hannah. Tucker and your humans need you.

    Bacterial infection...

I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier...this sounds exactly like what Tinker-kat had. Two rounds of antibiotic and she was good as gold! Hope it's that way for Miss Hannah!

Sweetie Tucker, keep that spaniel head of yours held high, bud! Your mommy needs you most right now!
