This is a funny story, this happened to my Mom's friend, Sherann.

She was in Indiana pumping gas into her car, when she got done she got in her car, drove off, ripping the hose from the pump. When she reached Wisconsin, a driver on the freeway was pointing to her gas tank. She pulled over, and the gas nozzle was hanging out of her gas tank.

This happened so long ago I shudder to think of the years gone by! Yes, kids, I am a lot older than most of you!

My very first car was a Metropolitan. Ah, you don't even know what that is, do you? Well, I was very lucky to even have any car at all and I was paying it off very slowly. And it was a used car I bought from a relative.

A Metropolitan is a very tiny car (smaller than a Mini-Cooper, I think). To get to the trunk you unlocked the back seat which folded down revealing some trunk space. I just didn't care, I had WHEELS!

Now Richard may be the only person that can truly appreciate this because he knows Los Angeles.

I was driving north up La Cienega Blvd. At the intersection of Santa Monica Blvd. and La Cienega - ahead there is a very steep hill. It never dawned on me that my little car would not be able to make that hill. I got half way up and clearly my car was balking at the hill.

Amazing - but then the traffic was very light (not so today) and all I could do was coast back down the hill...backwards......and finally get turned around in the correct lane in the opposite direction.

My heart was pounding..........but I made it!

One night one the way home from my mother-in-law's (I was newly married) my husband and I took a different route. There was a blinking light ahead (the kind you see at railroad crossings). As we came upon it, I screamed "Aren't you going to stop for the train?" My husband slammed on the brakes, even though there was no train in sight and there were no tracks crossing the road. He said he thought maybe one had derailed or something and was coming across the field (it was a country road). Anyway, I have no idea what those lights were for, but we laughed all the way home. We still talk about it today and I'd hate to tell you how many years ago that was!

    accident

26 years ago, I had a horrible experience

It was a morning in February. The roads were covered with ice and very slippery.
I was driving to work slowly, and suddenly my car started slipping, made a half turn and went to the opposite side of the road, just between two trucks(not hitting them, thank God!!) and then with the front into a huge tree.
My gardian angel must have been on my shoulder!! My car was total loss; only one door could be opened: mine
    I didn't have a scratch!!
Up till today, I still have dreams about it! I dream then that I am in a car that cannot be stopped..!
    So scary..

Once Rob, Tom & I were going to my parents place(about a 60km drive). Rob was doing about 90km on Richmond Rd heading towards Franktown. Were a few km from the franktown Stop sign, when this big red truck started to tailgate us... he was so close we couldn't see his plate nor his lower bumper, he had to be about 5 feet away from our car...Rob tapped his brakes trying to get the truck to back off, that didn't work so he took his foot off the gas & let the car slow down on its own, in hopes the guy would back off or pass... Well he decides to finally pass at about 50km & cuts us off so bad we hit the breaks.. Rob & Tom gave him the finger as he looked in his rear mirror... it didn't take long for the truck to dissapear. But as we were about 1-2 km from the stop sign I said, hey look its the red hic mobile & goggled... but soon realized he wasn't moving & we saw no cars driving in his path. We stoped about 2-3 car lengths behind the truck, cause Rob said he didn't feel right & he was right, I said ummmm arn't those his reverse lights? & rob said umm ya it is... seconds after the truck floored the truck in reverse towards us, luckly rob was prepared & already had the car in reverse & he slamed on the gas. the truck stopped about 1 1/2 car lengths ahead of us & the guy came out, Rob locked the doors as soon as he saw him open his door... the guy tried to open the back drivers door & then tried to open the drivers door & then he tried to force the door open... Rob & tom just looked at him & he started to punch the windows, Rob unbuckled & took off his coat to reveal his size. The red-neck gave an odd look & walked off... all I can say is that 911 really gets the cops moving... they caught up with him at his house & wrote him up (they can't lay charges if they don't catch him in the act) ... hopefully that wont happen again...

I was on my way alone to a safari lodge in South Africa once in a hired car, and had already driven about 500 km and was nearing the Mocambique border. I was a bit late, and I was really pushing it along the dirt road up to the lodge. It was way out in the bush, with giraffes and elephants and zebras and stuff all over the place. I was on a stretch that was flat and wide, going about 100 km an hour, when I hit a patch of dry sand on hard base. I instantly lost control, rolled the car once and spun it twice before going through the fence beside the road. The windows were open and my camera and a couple of lenses on the front seat. I can distinctly remember hanging upside down in my seat belt as I rolled, listening to the crashing of glass and thinking “how am I going to get out of this belt?” (Funny how it all happens in slow motion isn’t it)

I managed to get out of the car with some difficulty, and presumably went into shock. I found one of the lenses about 20 meters away, walked back to the car, took the camera out and took some of pictures of the car and then put the camera back on the front seat. Then I went and just sat down in the middle of the road. How long would it be before I was found? Could be hours and hours. How long before the lions find me and eat me? Could be any time!

Why is that idiot sitting in the middle of the road?

I have no idea how long I sat there, probably a good half hour. Then miraculously, an old couple came driving by and gave me a lift to the game wardens house.
Two hours later I was sitting in an open Land Rover surrounded by a pride of lions.

That was a very weird experience.

    ok, here's mine...

Last week, driving down a 3 lane highway, we were in the middle lane, a school bus was in the far right lane. Bus stops to let off some kiddies and pulls half way into the middle lane to let out the kids. Ok, I'm fine with that, he wants to make sure all cars are stopped when he lets out the kids...BUT what made me IRATE was after he dropped off the kids, he proceeds from the far right lane to directly cross all 3 lanes of traffic to make a left turn. How dangerous is that?! What if someone in the far left lane didn't stop? With a bus full of kids, that's a dangerous chance to take. I don't care if he does have to drive the bus down an extra block to correctly merge over all 3 lanes of traffic instead making the handy turn right where lets the kids off. It was just wrong.

    My accident story:
You know those big concrete canals..like in the movie Grease where they were racing the cars? Well we were crossing one and the street we were merging into had a stop sign for the other cars. Some moron didn't stop at the stop sign and slammed into my passsenger side. The jeep would have fallen into that huge canal had we not been right before the guard rail and slammed into that instead of going over. Car was totaled. Amazingly, I was fine, but my friend who was driving had to go to the hospital. She's ok now. Best part...it was a hit and run. Jerk never even stopped to see if we were ok.
