I sent this email to the prayer pawtrol yesterday.
Dixie's paw swelled really bad a little over a week ago and the vet was unsure what is going on to cause all the swelling. They have done x-rays and checked for punctures but there does not seem to be any explanation for the swelling. She is in pain because she has been whimpering when you touch it. She is very strong and didn't even whimper in child birth so I know it has to be really hurting her.
The swelling went down for a couple days and we thought the antibiotics had kicked in and whatever was going on was gone. Unfortunately yesterday the swelling came back and she is in even more pain that before. Another trip to the vet and we still don't know what is going on. She is now on two different kinds of antibiotics The vet said that if the swelling doesn't go down and stay down they may end up having to amputate her toe. It seems kind of extreme and I will take her to Ohio State Veterinary Hospital before doing that. Ohio State is like Tuft's on the east coast.
Please keep her in your prayers.
Candy
Poor DixieI am so sorry to hear she is hurting so much and the swelling has come back.
I am sure that the vet has already thought of this but what came in my mind is that a grass seed had got in there, especially as it begins between the toes. From what I have read, and seen once on tv, they can go really deep and sometimes can be very difficult to detect but it does show very similar effects to Dixie`s.
I hope the two antibiotics do the trick and she begins to get better very soon.
Keeping her in my prayers.
Hugs from Chris and doggy kisses from Bob
We're all praying for ya Dixie, don't want that toe to be amputated![]()
Get better fast girl!!!
This breaks my heart....We'll be praying for Dixie... I was hoping she was already ok, based on the previous e-mail.... I'm so sorry to hear that she's in pain again.... I know that our furkids have a high tolerance of pain... They don't complain even when they are hurting.... But if they moan, or they cry, they must really be in extreme pain

We'll be thinking and praying for Dixie, and also for you Candy... We know how difficult is this for you, to see her in pain....
God bless...
I have made an appointment to have Dixie's toe examined for cancer. I posed a question out on a medical dog website and a couple hits came back for the exact same symptoms and it turned out to be cancer related. If the diagnosis is made before the cancer has a chance to mastasize it is usually 100% curable. If the diagnosis is delayed then the prognosis is not so fortunate. I don't want to wait any longer so the appointment is made. I will let everyone know what the outcome is. The appointment is not until this Friday.
Candy I know how anxious you are feeling about Friday. We are all hoping that Dixie's problem is something much less serious and will be waiting to see what you find out. As I mentioned to you in an e-mail, my Whitney had cancer of the toe and it was amputated. It didn't hinder her one bit in her activities and after a while we stopped noticing how funny her sweet little foot looked. You are wise to check everything out right away. Hugs to you and Dixie while you wait.
We'll be praying for our precious Dixie...![]()

We'll keep praying for poor Dixie, that whatever the case, her poor foot can be treated easily.
My sister-in-law's Bichon just had a toe amputated for a non-cancerous tumor this summer. Little Gabby has recovered wonderfully and doesn't miss the toe at all.
I will be praying for Dixie. I hope all goes well on Friday.

Oh I really am hoping & praying that your Dixie will be OK. Please try and not worry until you find out anything definite (I know that's easier said than done!) Sending warm thoughts your way...
Dixie has been on my mind. I hope the appointment goes well. Please update us as soon as you get a chance!
Hope all goes well with the vet visit & no cancer. Please do keep us updated. We're still praying for sweet Dixie.
