Thread: When is the right time?

  1. #31
My wife and I got to meet Mitchell yesterday...what a puppy!!! He is so cute!

He is approximately 16 weeks old. He has had his ears cropped, tail docked and dew claws removed. However, one of his paws got an infection and his tail got an infection.

He goes back to the vet Wednesday to remove a bone by his dew claw and he will also be neutered then.

My wife made the comment yesterday, "I want to take my dog home now!" So she has fallen in love with Mitchell after seeing him for about 20 minutes. He is a rambunctious boy!

Mitchell just nibbled on Callihans cheeks and paws and Calli just looked at him like, "who are you and what are you doing"?

We should be getting Mitchell within the next week and a half!

I'll post a picture of him then!

Callihan, Jennie and Brad say thanks to all for your love, advice and support and to Quincey, we love you big boy and miss you terribly!

Since Quincey died I took it upon myself to search for available Doberman puppies. What I found was very disappointing.

During my search I have found that in the last 6 years Doberman breeders have really raised the price of puppies. Callihan and Quincey cost approximately $350 each. Now puppies are a minimum of $500 with NO health certifications! One breeder I spoke to bred his female black/rust with a male fawn. I asked him about the condition of the sires coat. He informed me that the male had problems with his coat which is typical with fawns. Why, then would you breed a litter with that male? No answer other than "I wanted a puppy". The problem is that the majority of breeders I contacted don't have a clue nor really care to know about the inherent health issues that plague Doberman Pinschers. Which does nothing for the overall health of the breed. Their only response is, "my litter doesn't have those issues"...

I have also found that many breeders like to talk about other breeders...and it generally isn't flattering...

I guess what was the most disappointing part of my search was the realization that the majority of these people are breeding to make money and that is very sad. They are in it for business!!!

Mitchell on the other is perfect for us! WE ARE NOW RESCUE PEOPLE AND QUINCEY MUST BE LOVING IT!

    delidog, check this out:

    http://www.dpca.org/ac.html

It will explain why white dobermans shouldn't be bred nor bought.

After reading about the health issues concerning Dobermans in the last few weeks I now know that Quincey might not have died had I been more responsible. I should have had tests done years ago on Quincey and Callihan however, I took my vets word for some things that I now regret. Unfortunately, Quincey paid for my laziness with his life and for that I am forever sorry Quince!

That will never happen again to any Doberman left in my care.

wow...what an interesting article...and so sad....those dogs should never have been allowed to breed and inbreed...what a shame...the dobie is such a regal dog!!!
do not feel irresposible for the care of Dear Quincy...you did the best you could...He had a good life...and lots of love from you!!!!
better than all those puppy mills!!!!
Do not feel that you did the wrong thing...we can always look back and say what if...but then we would never go forward....
Dear Quincy loved you for the love and adoration that you showed him...always remember that!!!!!!
    He was your special Quincy!!!!!!
now he is playing with lots of friends at The Rainbow Bridge....
Scrubber was there to greet him when he arrived....now they are both there playing and romping together until we can be there to meet them!!!

delidog, I so look forward to that day when Quincey stops running around and he smells something familiar...he lifts his head up and looks around and sees someone he loves...he starts wagging his stub profusely and in full gallop runs to mommy, daddy and Callihan!

    Never to be separated again!

I do look so forward to that day!
