I also hate lies but I also believe when someone or something is going to be hurt and it can be prevented, we need to do what needs to be done. You are not lying to get out of a consequence of one of your actions, you are doing it to help a poor innocent dog from being abused further. In my opinion, I think there is a big difference! I think it is a great plan of action!!!

What an ordeal this has all been! How great it is that you are doing everything you can to find poor Cody a good home. I know some people are against crates, but for short times it is the best solution for a dog...and much safer then being tied to a tree!! we started Sadei in a crate until she was trust worthy (potty tained etc.) and Cincy is still crated during the day, becuase of health problems she has had. We are slowly trying to moe her out of it. I don't think this makes us bad dog owners...in fact I think our girls are rather spoiled and very happy.

I don't don't like lies either, but in this case it is for the good of the dog. do what you have to do, for Cody's sake.

Being as Cody is over the puppy and young adult stage, he probably will do very well left alone for a few hours. I'll bet that after a little experimentation Cody won't even need to be crated and more importantly ever again tied to a tree. So in the final anaylsis this is no lie at all. I am just going on my experience with Tucker.

I know of another cocker spaniel that is tied up all day. His name is Rocky. My friend, Melissa's, brother and sister-in-law own him. I thought Amy, the sister-in-law, was really an animal lover. He was inside all the time when he was a little puppy, and received a lot of attention. Now he lives entirely outside, tied up at all times. He apparently *does* get fed because he is extremely fat. Well, at least that's what Melissa said...they finally had him groomed after he had been a sheepdog for over a year I'm sure.

Then there's Bear and Trusty. Her dad's "hunting" dogs. They live at the house with Rocky too. They live in a wood shack that's older then the hills, with a tiny little chain link run on the back. They get food and water, but that's it. We've tried to give them attention, but we can't handle them, especially Bear. He's gigantic and WILD, because he has received absolutely no training just being a dog.

I've been trying to get her to steal the dogs for a long time now...seriously lol....I just want to nab them sometime and take them to Best Friends or something. It's better then where they are at. Anyone want a 2-3 year old fat cocker spaniel, a 7-9 year old gigantic wild black lab, or a 11-13 year old skinny german shorthair?

I don't think crates are evil. My dogs have to stay in them when we are gone. There isn't really a choice...we have no doggy door, and Smokey will dig under the fence. It's definitely better then being tied to a tree!

I hope you will be able to talk Cody's owners into giving him a better home.

I will be telling Cody's owner that I have found a home for him and will be picking him up on Saturday to take him to his new foster home!

Well, this is not quiet a rescue story, but goes to show some people just don't deserve the companionship or love of pets. I was at the vet's this week, waiting outside the Xray door (for Cody) which was located right outside the vet's offices.I couldn't help but overhear one of the vet's in a controlled (trying) heated discussion with someone about showing up for an appointnment the following day for her dog's ear surgery. Apparently, (and I moved closer and my ears got bigger..nosey) rather than have this much needed surgery, the client opted for MORE anti-biotics, which the vet said wouldn't work anymore. He even offered a payment plan for the surgery. His voice got a bit louder and more insistent and said "You would rather have your dog in constant agony rather than operate to relieve the problem"? After he hung up the phone (turned out the person was a nurse) his assistant told him to take a deep breath and count to 10. He was SO angry. He was muttering and slamming his fists saying that some people just shouldn't have pets!. He was sooo upset. He looked up and saw me and just shook his head. I swear he was going to cry. I happily paid my $200 bill after that!! I feel awful seeing Cody so upset and confused at the vet but would mortgage my house to save him. It was all I could do to keep my mouth shut and yell at the phone. I feel so sad for that poor, helpless, pained dog.

My neighbors have a Beagle. The beagle is cooped up in a cage 24/7 no matter what the heat or how cold it is (usually about 90 right now) He is either in the cage or on the Lead. They have a garbage can IN his cage to throw his poo away so that they don't have to walk far to throw it away, his cage stinks so bad. i feel bad for the little guy. Well I actually felt so bad that (I have a dog walking business) I lowered my price from 5 dollars a walk to free! So I was like hi I saw you had a beautiful beagle in a cage behind your house. I also noticed he was cooped up most of the day. I was wondering if you minded if I walked him twice a day, now I usually charge 5 dollars, but I am a sucker for beagles and will walk him for free. She was like NO don’t' you know anything Beagles area lazy breed they don't need exercise. . I just wanted to yell at her HELLO LADY IT’S A BEAGLE THEY HUNT THEY NEED EXERSISE. . Some people. My other neighbors let there "pitbull run around the neighborhood and it attacked a beagle named Whinny (another dog I walk). His injures weren't that bad luckily. We can't walk him for awile though . We still go over to give him treats and stuff.
