A LEASH!
I'm with the rest, that's the first I've ever heard of something like that being ingested by a dog! Well, have you heard from the vet yet this morning? I sure hope everything is ok (which I'm sure it is!). Give Daisy Mae a big ol' hug and smooch for me when you see her!

Thank goodness that your Vets were on top of this and knew to act fast. This is a very serious condition. My Tucker had an obstruction when he lived at his last home and they had to operate as well. I've read his medical records and I realize how serious of a situation it is. But he did recover and has never had any kind of post surgery complications. I don't want to scare you, but be prepared for a fairly large bill from the Vet. It cost the people who had Tucker $800.00, although I do think he was at the hospital quite awhile due to the fact that the parents were out of town and the person staying with the family didn't want to have to deal with a post surgery dog.
I saw a segment on Good Morning America or one of those shows where they were talking about dogs ingesting foreign objects and having to have surgery. The vet said that the most frequent object that are extracted from dogs intestinal track is panties.
Of course our wishes are that Daisy will recover quickly and that she too will be back to normal real soon.

Have you been missing a leash? Glad the surgery went well. It sounds like the worst is over thankfully.
Well sabies, we did some investigating and figured out which leash it is (the vet very nicely saved it for us).
I just got off the phone with the pompous jerk vet and he said that she is doing much better today and she has eaten a little bit and drank some water, but she still has the sad eyes (he would have to point that out when he knows I can't go see her), but she has not produced any stool and he said she can't come home until that happens. I'm going to call at about 11:15 to check again. I'm going to enjoy making his life miserable until I get her back. Gee, can you tell he's not one of my more favorite people? lol
He doesn't like either Mike or me because we tell him what we think and will argue with him if we think he's wrong...and he can't STAND that!! Usually, we're right and he's wrong since we know our dogs better than he does. God, I can't wait until Dr. B gets back next Tuesday.
I'll update you after I talk to him later this morning.

Molly,
I'm so sorry to hear that Daisy Mae had to have surgery but I'm happy that she is on the mend. I could not log in yesterday (I have huge problems at home at the moment) and I'm sorry I just read this thread. I'll send some positive thoughts your way so that she will be home where she belongs ASAP.
Well, I talked to jerk vet's tech and she said that there wasn't any change from this morning and they were still waiting for her to poop before we can bring her home. I wish I could have gone over and visited her today but they close at noon. I'm going to go over there tomorrow morning before I go to the auction and down to Bloomington. He (the vet) will go back in and check on her tonight. The tech she was sleeping when I called.

I'm so glad Daisy Mae is doing well after her surgery. I know it's hard to wait but try to be patient with the vet. They have to make sure she ok before they send her home. That was major surgery. That's why they are waiting on the poop; to make sure there is no more blockage and things are 'moving through' ok. People doctors do the same thing before you can get out of the hospital; at least here they do. No poop, no release from the hospital. It happened to me 3 years ago. Once again, I'm so happy for Daisy. I know it's hard on you. Hopefully, you will get to at least see her tomorrow. Fingers and paws crossed here for all of you.
Glad to hear Daisy is recovering. I am sure it is very hard for you to not be ale to hold and comfort her though. Hard has it is, try to relax and know that she getting some much needed rest after such an ordeal.
What was the leash made of? Did she swallow it whole? Cincy has some teeth marks in her leather leash, but I can't imagine her eating the whole thing ( at least not with out tearing it to peices first)
we are still thinking of you![]()
As far as I know, the leash is in one piece!! She's so goofy. It's not that I'm being so impatient with the guy, it's just that he's so ungodly pompous and acts like he knows it all and I know nothing. Basically, he treats me like he thinks I don't have a brain in my head, which doesn't sit well with me!!

I can certainly understand that. I'd probably feel the same way you do. I thought you were just frustraited because she couldn't come home until she pooped. Sorry, I misunderstood.Originally posted by mugsy

It still amazes me how Daisy Mae managed to swallow a whole leash complete with metal fasteners. OUCH! Poor Baby! Hope you get to see her soon.

Not a problem, I reread the posts and that's pretty much how I made it sound. And that fastener was one of the really heavy duty ones too!

Well, the vet called and said that Daisy was doing much better and was pulling him around the yard now and was feeling a little frisky. He fully expects her to make a full recovery and said that she should be completely healed in about 2 weeks. We have to be careful about how much we feed her and it sounds like it's going to be soft food mixed with dry for awhile. If we can't bring her home tomorrow, it will probably be Sunday and he said we could make arrangements to meet then.
I also got an apology for being so short with us. He was very conversational tonight and was laughing about her swallowing a whole leash. Btw...DUH...I said the clasp was on it...well...hello...it couldn't have been there or it would have shown up on the X-ray!! Sheesh, sometimes I amaze even myself with my stupidity! lol He said he told his wife about it and she was shocked and they laughed about it over dinner, when he figured out that she was going to be ok. Gee I know have a famous dog!!! lol
So, I guess I have to take back all the mean things I said since he apologized...dang...he takes all the fun out of it! hehehe...j/k. He said that he doubled up on the sutures at the incision so that it would be less likely to rupture. He did keep warning me about what still might happen, but things were looking up!!
Thanks again to all of you caring people out there in PTland for your prayers and good thoughts...keep them coming that she can come home soon!!

Molly, nice to hear she's doing so well, and that the vet apologized! But your right, sometimes you hate when they do, cause then you feel a little bad for all the things you've said! It does take all the fun out of it!

Molly,
I am so glad that Daisy is getting better and better! Boy, you sure do lead a busy life! You said you are a teacher? What grade do you teach?
Good luck tomorrow. I hope the meeting goes well!
