This was the song Ralph and I used for our first dance at our wedding...

    With This Ring-Sawyer Brown

I'll say my peace and I'll play my hand
And maybe this way you'll understand
I'm short on words I was raised that way
But I still mean all the ones I say

    Chorus
And with ring I promise you
Everything that I have or can do
There's so many roads that love can run
But here in my heart your the only one

I do all right here on my own
But you give me things I've never known
Oh here I am getting up my nerve
It may not be all that you deserve

I'm going to try to keep these short--I absolutely love the Dave Matthews Band, and a lot of their songs have meaning for me personally, but they have good messages too--

    two step

    By: Dave Matthews Band

Say, my love, I came to you with best intentions
You laid down and gave to me just what I'm seeking
Love, you drive me to distraction

Hey my love do you believe that we might last a thousand years
Or more if not for this,
    our flesh and blood
It ties you and me right up
    Tie me down

    Celebrate we will
Because life is short but sweet for certain
    We're climbing two by two
To be sure these days continue
    These things we cannot change

Hey, my love, you came to me like wine comes to this mouth
Grown tired of water all the time
You quench my heart and you quench my mind

    Celebrate we will
    Because life is short but
    Sweet for certain
    We're climbing two by two
To be sure these days continue
    The things we cannot
Celebrate, you and me, climbing two by two, to be sure
these days continue, things we cannot change

Oh, my love I came to you
    with best intentions
You laid down and gave to me
    Just what I'm seeking

    Celebrate we will
    Because life is short
    But sweet for certain
    We're climbing two by two
To be sure these days continue
    Things we cannot change...
    Things we cannot change

    here's another one

    #41

    By: Dave Matthews Band

    Come and see
I swear by now I'm playing time against my troubles
    I'm coming slow but speeding
Do you wish a dance and while I'm in the front
The play on time is won
But the difficulty is coming here

I will go in this way
And find my own way out
I won't tell you to stay
But I'm coming to much more
    Me
All at once the ghosts come back
    Reeling in you now
What if they came down crushing
Remember when I used to play for all of the loneliness that nobody
    notices now
I'm begging slow I'm coming here
Only waiting I wanted to stay
    I wanted to play,
    I wanted to love you

    I'm only this far
And only tomorrow leads my way

I'm coming waltzing back and moving into your head
Please, I wouldn't pass this by
I wouldn't take any more than
What sort of man goes by
    I will bring water
Why won't you ever be glad
    It melts into wonder
I came in praying for you
    Why won't you run
    in the rain and play
Let the tears splash all over you

    big eyed fish

    By: Dave Matthews Band

Look at this big - eyed fish swimming in the sea oh
How it dreams to be a bird swoop and diving through the breeze
So one day caught a big old wave up on to the beach
Now he’s dead you see beneath the sea is where a fish should be

    But oh God
    Under the weight of life
Things seem brighter on the other side

You see this crazy man decided not to breathe
He turned red and blue - purple, colorful indeed
No matter how his friends begged and pleaded the man would not concede
And now he’s dead you see the silly man should know you got to breathe

    But oh God
    Under the weight of life
Things seem brighter on the other side

    Oh God
    Under the weight of life
Things seem so much better on the other side

    No way, no way
    No way out of here

You see the little monkey sitting up in his monkey tree
One day decided to climb down and run off to the city
But look at him now lost tired living in the street
As good as dead you see what a monkey does - stay up your tree

    But oh God
    Under the weight of life
Things seem brighter on the other side

    Oh God
    Under the weight of life
Things seem so much better on the other side

No way, no way, no way
    No way out of here

    Rain in my dreams

    Fall away

    Here are the "wish you were here" lyrics;

    Wish You Were Here
So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
    blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
    A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

Did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
    Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
    Cold comfort for change?
Did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
    What have we found?
    The same old fears.
    Wish you were here...

Doesn't sound like much, but everytime I hear it, I love it more and more
I'm done, for real this time

I kinda know alot of them put here's my fave two. One i think is by Greenday, "There's Somthing unpreditable and in the end there's rain, I hope you had the time of your life." I heard that after my 8th grade graduation when me and the kids i went to school with for 9 years where half asleep on the bus. The last time we ever be togather as a class AND

Garth Brooks, Pushin Up Daisy' s

Sometimes I tell you the way that I feel
I swear that I'm going crazy
Keep telling myself it ain't that big a deal
It's better than pushing up daisies

I felt the arrow from death's fatal quiver
Come so close it actually grazed me
I bled the blood and I've felt the cold shiver
God only knows how He saved me

    Chorus:
    THERE'S TWO DATES IN TIME
THAT THEY'LL CARVE ON YOUR STONE
AND EVERYONE KNOWS WHAT THEY MEAN
    WHAT'S MORE IMPORTANT
IS THE TIME THAT IS KNOWN
IN THAT LITTLE DASH THERE IN BETWEEN
THAT LITTLE DASH THERE IN BETWEEN

Sometimes my heart is as true as a dove
Sometimes my heart it betrays me
So I draw my sword for to fight for my love
But without a whisper she slays me

My mother died but somehow she keeps living
She'll never cease to amaze me
Now Dad turns his back on each day that he's given
Because he'd rather be pushing up daisies

    Repeat Chorus

"Wish You Were Here" -- Incubus

I dig my toes into the sand.
The ocean looks like a thousand diamonds strewn across a blue blanket.
I lean against the wind, pretend that i am weightless and in this moment i am happy.

    [Chorus:]
    I wish you were here
    I wish you were here
    I wish you were here
    I wish you were here.

I lay my head onto the sand.
The sky resembles a backlit canopy with holes punched in it.
    I'm counting ufo's.
I signal them with my lighter
and in this moment i am happy, happy.

    [Chorus]

The world's a roller coaster and I am not strapped in.
Maybe I should hold with care, but my hands are busy in the air.

    [Chorus]
Owned by a demanding cat. Lol

and this song gives me chills everytime I listen to it, I believe it is about the Dieppe 'incident' in WW2 where way too many young canadian soldiers died at the hands of the Nazis, in France:

    TRAGICALLY HIP LYRICS

    "Nautical Disaster"

I had this dream where I relished
The fray and the screaming that filled my head all day
It was as though I'd been spit there, settled in , into a pocket
Of a lighthouse off some rocky socket,
Off the coast of France, Dear

One afternoon, four thousand men died in the water here
Five hundred more were thrashing madly as parasites might in you blood
Now I was in lifeboat designed for ten and ten and only,
Anything that systematic would get you hated.
It's not a deal nor a test nor a love of something fated.
The selection was quick, the crew was picked and
those left in the water got kicked off our pant leg and we headed for home.

Then the dream ends when the phone rings
You doing alright he said it's out there ,most days and nights
But only a fool would complain
Anyway Susan if you like our conversation is as faint as the sound in my memory
As those fingernails scratching on the hull
Owned by a demanding cat. Lol

To cheer me up/make me laugh I *love* to listen to this song:

She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy: Kenny Chesney

Plowing these fields in the hot summer sun
Over by the gate lordy here she comes
With a basket full of chicken and a big cold jug of sweet tea
I make a little room and she climbs on up
Open up a throttle and stir a little dust
Just look at her face she ain't a foolin' me

    She thinks my tractor's sexy
    It really turns her on
    She's always staring at me
    While I'm chuggin' along
She likes the way it's pullin' while we're tillin' up the land
She's even kind of crazy 'bout my farmer's tan
She's the only one who really understands what gets me
    She thinks my tractor's sexy

We ride back and forth until we run out of light
Take it to the barn put it up for the night
Climb up in the loft sit and talk with the radio on
She said she's got a dream and I asked what it is
She wants a little farm and a yard full of kids
One more teeny weeny ride before I take her home

    She thinks my tractor's sexy
    It really turns her on
    She's always staring at me
    While I'm chuggin' along
She likes the way it's pullin' while we're tillin' up the land
She's even kind of crazy 'bout my farmer's tan
She's the only one who really understands what gets me
    She thinks my tractor's sexy

Well she ain't into cars or pick up trucks
But if it runs like a Deere man her eyes light up

    She thinks my tractor's....

    She thinks my tractor's sexy
    It really turns her on
    She's always staring at me
    While I'm chuggin' along
She likes the way it's pullin' while we're tillin' up the land
She's even kind of crazy 'bout my farmer's tan
She's the only one who really understands what gets me
    She thinks my tractor's sexy

    She thinks my tractor's sexy
    She thinks my tractor's sexy

It makes me laugh every time I listen to it. What makes it better is the fact that Mr. Chesney- the cutiest Country singer, sings it.
I like this song, too! I really like country music, though!

    "I'm Alive"

    Mmmmm ... Mmmmm ...
    I get wings to fly
    Oh, oh ... I'm alive ... Yeah

    When you call on me
    When I hear you breathe
    I get wings to fly
    I feel that I'm alive

    When you look at me
    I can touch the sky
    I know that I'm alive

    When you bless the day
    I just drift away
    All my worries die
    I'm glad that I'm alive

You've set my heart on fire
    Filled me with love
Made me a woman on clouds above

    I couldn't get much higher
    My spirit takes flight
    'Cause I am alive

    When you call on me
    (When you call on me)
    When I hear you breathe
    (When I hear you breathe)
    I get wings to fly
    I feel that I'm alive
    (I am alive)

    When you reach for me
    (When you reach for me)
    Raising spirits high
    God knows that...

    That I'll be the one
Standing by through good and through trying times
    And it's only begun
I can't wait for the rest of my life

    When you call on me
    (When you call on me)
    When you reach for me
    (When you reach for me)
    I get wings to fly
    I feel that...

    When you bless the day
(When you bless, you bless the day)
    I just drift away
    (I just drift away)
    All my worries die
    I know that I'm alive

    I get wings to fly
    God knows that I'm alive

Here's the lyrics to "I'm Alive" by Celine Dion. I like a lot of songs by celine Dion, especially "A New Day has Come"

    Hmm I know a few.

    BEAUTIFUL-JOYDROP

If I was beautiful like you, oh the things I would do.

Those not so blessed would be crying out murder.

And I'd just laugh and get away with it too. Like you do.

If I was beautiful like you, I would

never be at fault. I'd walk in the rain

    between the rain drops. Bringing

    traffic to a halt.

    But that would never be.

    That would never never be.

'Cause I'm not beautiful like you, I'm beautiful like me.

If I was beautiful like you.

    I'd be quick to assume.

They'd do anything to please me why not.

I see their reaction when you walk into the room.

If I was beautiful like you, I'd have so many friends.

All fighting for my time to be next in line.

So if I hurt one I wouldn't have to make amends
    Goonies never say die!

Thanks Amy for the great sig!

THE HAND SONG by Nickel Creek

The boy only wanted to give mother something
And all of her roses had bloomed
Looking at him as he came rushing in with them
    Knowing her roses were doomed
All she could see were some thorns buried deep
And the tears that he cried as she tended his wounds

And she knew it was love
It was one she could understand
    He was showing his love
And that's how he hurt his hands

He still remembers that night as a child
    On his mother's knee
She held him close and she opened her Bible
    And quietly started to read
Then seeing a picture of Jesus he cried out
"Momma, He's got some scars just like me"

And he knew it was love
It was one he could understand
    He was showing His love
And that's how He hurt His hands

Now the boy's grown and moved out on his own
    When Uncle Sam comes alone
A foreign affair, but our young men were there
And luck had his number drawn
It wasn't that long till our hero was gone
He gave to a friend what he learned from the Cross

But they knew it was love
It was one they could understand
    He was showing His love
And that's how He hurt His hands
It was one they could understand
    He was showing His love
And that's how He hurt his hands
    Goonies never say die!

Thanks Amy for the great sig!

Wow, I don't think I could post the lyrics to just one song. I guess it depends what you mean by "inspirational" - a song can inspire me to do lots of different things, like laugh, cry, dance, hug my kid/husband, whatever. I don't listen to inspirational music as pertains to religion, and I have favorite songs from the 40's right on up to now. The song "Creep" by Radiohead always gives me shivers....

    When you were here before
Couldn't look you in the eye
    You're just like an angel
    Your skin makes me cry
    You float like a feather
    In a beautiful world
    I wish I was special
    You're so (very) special
    But I'm a creep, I'm a weirdo.
What the hell am I doing here?
    I don't belong here.

I don't care if it hurts
    I want to have control
    I want a perfect body
    I want a perfect soul
    I want you to notice
    When I'm not around
    You're so (very) special
    I wish I was special

    But I'm a creep, I'm a weirdo.
What the hell am I doing here?
    I don't belong here.

    She's running out again,
    She's running out
She's run run run running out...

    Whatever makes you happy
    Whatever you want
    You're so (very) special
    I wish I was special...

    But I'm a creep, I'm a weirdo,
What the hell am I doing here?
    I don't belong here.
    I don't belong here.

Reminds me of that outcast feeling I always had in high school....

Then there's the song that I would sing for my husband, if I could actually sing without scaring the cat....

    "Still The One" by Orleans

We've been together since way back when
Sometimes I never want to see you again
But I want you to know, after all these years
You're still the one I want whisperin' in my ear

You're still the one I want to talk to in bed
Still the one that turns my head
We're still having fun, and you're still the one

I looked at your face every day
But I never saw it 'til I went away
When winter came, I just wanted to go
Deep in the desert, I longed for the snow

You're still the one that makes me laugh
Still the one that's my better half
We're still having fun, and you're still the one

You're still the one that makes me strong
Still the one I want to take along
We're still having fun, and you're still the one

Changing, our love is going gold
Even though we grow old, it grows new

You're still the one that I love to touch
Still the one and I can't get enough
We're still having fun, and you're still the one

You're still the one who can scratch my itch
Still the one and I wouldn't switch
We're still having fun, and you're still the one

You are still the one that makes me shout
Still the one that I dream about
We're still having fun, and you're still the one...

Then there's that Nine Inch Nails song, "Closer" - I don't dare put any of those lyrics on here, but there's something about it that draws me in, even though the lyrics are pretty raw. (It's my other love song for my husband - j/k)

"Run For The Roses" by Dan Fogelberg - whenever I hear this song, I can close my eyes and I am in a pasture in Kentucky in the summertime, in perfect peace:

    Born in the valley
    And raised in the trees
    Of Western Kentucky
    On wobbly knees
    With mama beside you
    To help you along
You'll soon be a-growing up strong

    All the long, lazy mornings
    In pastures of green
    The sun on your withers
    The wind in your mane
    Could never prepare you
    For what lies ahead
The run for the roses so red -

And it's run for the roses
    As fast as you can
    Your fate is delivered
    Your moment's at hand
It's the chance of a lifetime
    In a lifetime of chance
And it's high time you joined
    In the dance
    It's high time you joined
    In the dance -

    From sire to sire
    It's born in the blood
    The fire of a mare
And the strength of a stud
    It's breeding and it's training
    And it's something unknown
    That drives you and carries
    You home

And it's run for the roses
    As fast as you can
    Your fate is delivered
    Your moment's at hand
It's the chance of a lifetime
    In a lifetime of chance
And it's high time you joined
    In the dance
    It's high time you joined
    In the dance -

I think The Eagles, Queen, Supertramp, a lot of those 70's groups had really great lyrics, or maybe it's just that I listened to them when I was going through my maudlin, teenage, just-kill-me-now phase and they seemed deeper than they really were - .
The legend says that Mohammed adored cats. When one of them was sleeping on his sleeve and he had to go out, Mohammed supposedly cut off the sleeve so as not to disturb his pet.

A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast - Proverbs 12:10

How we behave toward cats here below determines our status in heaven. - Robert A. Heinlein

What greater gift than the love of a cat? ~ Charles Dickens

There is, incidently, no way of talking about cats that enables one to come off as a sane person. - Dan Greenberg

If purring could be encapsulated, it'd be the most powerful anti-depressant on the market. ~Alexis F. Hope
