Unhappy Pjevs, Randi & Fister's Yard Kitty, has been Called to the Rainbow Bridge ...

Dearest Pjevs, the Loyal Back Yard Guardian for many years for Randi and John,
has sent word to Randi that it's Time ...

Time to drop in at the Bridge for a Howdy with Jonza ...
Time to rest his weary feet ...
Time to become a Bridge Angle.

I'm sure Randi will find the strength to say a few more words ...
but She and Sus (Susanne), and the other couple who assist with feeding and
caring for Pjevs; gathered to discuss what would be best for poor ole Pjevs.

    In Randi's words:

"The other day, we noticed that Pjevs couldn't walk properly and found out that his nails have grown too long. It has been rather difficult to look at them before, but I took him up yesterday evening and put him in my bathroom. I washed him a bit with a wet cloth and dipped his paws into the sink with warm water.

After he had relaxed a bit, I could get a closer look and it's not a pretty sight.
    It must be painful.
He also has problems with his teeth, and he is at least 14 years old -
    and could be 16-17.

I arranged to meet with Susanne (Sus) and the couple who also feed him, this afternoon.
Considering his age and everything, we decided it's best he is put to sleep.
    I'm so sad!

I have given him half a Romefen (painkiller),
unfortunately, I can't get more until Monday, vets are all closed.
In the meantime, I'll make him as comfortable as possible.
He's in my bathroom now, eating his favourite food.

Please send Pjevs some good thoughts."

    -------------------------

I'm not doing any better now than I did when trying to write to Randy this afternoon ...
    bad case of LES.

Here's a few *snappies* collected over the years by Randi and John of Pjevs
    in their back yard ...

John will meet you the minute you step off the Cloud.

Please keep watch over Randi and Fister.

    Dear Randi ~

We offer you our deepest sympathies and will be with you in spirit when
    Pjevs takes his final journey.

Some of us would like to help with the final costs to insure that the Vet
    assists and insures a comfortable journey;
and then performs a proper cremation ...
    Pjevs deserves to rest forever near his Back Yard Villa;
and I'll bet John will appreciate some Pjevs Ashes being sprinkled around his HeadStone across the street.

Give Pjevs a Final {{{HUG}}} from me.

Thanks for the pics, Randi. In the first one he looks like such a big healthy boy. But I know all too well how they grow smaller and their body changes as they age.

You provided him with a good home and you can tell he really liked living there. He knew he was loved......

I believe this is all anyone of us would hope to have when we pass on.
    It makes it all worthwhile.

    Oh, Randi and Fister,
I am just stunned to read about Pjevs. He was one of "my" tuxie kitties in my heart. I often thought he looked so much like my RB Tex. I am so sorry to know he is gone. What a wonderful, loving, humane thing you and Sus did for him at his final time, and how wonderfully the community family was for him during the last 12 years. May he rest peacefully at the RB. I hope my boy Tex was there to greet him, and show him around. I know they will be fast friends.

Please give my best to Fister, and take care of yourselves.
    Love,
    Johanna

It's very sweet of you all..

to include me when you post your support for Randi! I know that you mean well - but it is really not necessary, since I wasn't much involved in the caretaking of Pjevs. All I ever did was to feed him 6 times when Randi visited California last year.

I meant to stay out of this thread because I strongly disagree with Randi on the way this whole "Pjevs affair" has been handled.

However, when I read the sweet and supportive words from Cataholic:

I just couldn't take it anymore, and I felt that I had to break my silence. It was indeed a humane decision that Pjevs was put down this last sunday, and I was most certainly in favour of that decision.

However, in my view this decision was WAY overdue, and that is why I felt bad about the "loving, humane thing". The humane thing would have been to take him to the vet or have him put down six months ago when I pointed out to the yard group that there was something wrong with his paws and teeth.

In my view the yard group failed their responsibility towards Pjevs, because none of his caretakers wanted to adress the tiresome issues of how to get him to the vet and who should pay.

I think I owe it to Pjevs - who was indeed a right "trooper" that the truth be told in order for us to learn something from his sad demise. In my view taking care of a yard kitty - or any other "wildlife" for that matter - is not just down to feeding them once a day. You have a responsibility to see that they are healthy - and to intervene when they are not, and you have a doggone responsibility to make that awful last decision without too much hesitation when they are too old, too weak or too sick to fend for themselves. And claws grow, you know, on old yard kitties too. This should never be forgotten.

I'm sorry, but those are my views.

    Lots of love,
    Sus and Bella

Oh no, just found this post..

Dear Randi, I am all in tears here. I know how much you loved this guy and how good you and John took care of him. I still remember how hard you tried to save him few years ago, when some other tenants wanted Pjevs to go, because they said that he peed in the sand-box of their kids... . I was so happy when you were allowed to keep him there and feed him!
I am so sorry to hear he is gone now . I have no doubt you did exactly what you had to do!!

Godspeed to the RB, dear Pjevs!! Your pawpie John will be most happy to see you back!! Don't forget to say hi to my Sydney; please tell him how much I miss him... .

Randi, I noticed in this pic that Pjevs looked almost exactly like my Zazou!, except for the long hair!

and this is my Zazou! Look at his right front paw: only 3 white toes too!
I miss you enormously Sydney, Maya, Inka & Zazou Be happy there at the Rainbow Bridge

I don't often get to the cat side but happened to see this and just wanted to add my condolences to you Randi and the rest who took care of this sweet & beautiful boy.
It sounds like you did what was needed and I'm sure he's no longer in any pain.

    RIP Pjevs

I wasn't on PT when Pjevs first appeared, so don't know his history - how ill he had become or what.

It sounds like his nails had grown into his paw pads...and he was old. I didn't have the whole picture of what was wrong with him, as you close to him did.

This is a very emotional time for all his caregivers. He was a beautiful boy, and loved by many seen and unseen.

    My prayers to all.

    hugs
