    Getting another dog!

    Well, maybe ...

We may be adopting a Yellow Lab from the local humane society. She is a gorgeous dog, and she looks a lot like Nova except her coat is much darker.

We will have to see what Mandy thinks about her before we can adopt her. We will most likely be doing a "trial peroid" with her here to see if we can get it to work out. I'm so excited!!

Here is a picture of her. This one is from their website and when I saw her today I was like "are you sure that's her??!" But she is even cuter in real life than in the picture!

Oh yeah and her name is Lulu and I really don't like that name but she's almost 2 years old now and had that name her whole life. Are there any similar names y'all can think of? The only one I can think of is Lily.

    EDIT!
Here are some pictures my mom took today. They're not good shots, but you can see here what a beautiful dog she is. I swear the one up top makes her look kind of odd ... but here you can see that she is gorgeous.

This is my absolute favorite color Lab! I thought Nova would get this dark because her parents are dark and her ears and hocks are dark but she stayed a cream color.

You can see Nova on the right in the last one ... watching me pet her.

I'm not sure why she's there, actually. I will find out because I'm curious. Her foster mom said she's known her since she was a pup however she's only been there for 2 months so I'm wondering if maybe it was a friend's dog who had to be given up for some reason. She's well trained so I'm assuming she came from a good home.

Lucy doesn't fit her. That's why I don't like Lulu. Well, not only doesn't it fit her, it's kind of hard to say! Lily kind of fits her but ... I don't know how much luck I'll have finding a name that fits and sounds like Lulu.

    She's lovely. Good luck!

I wouldn't worry too much about finding a name that sounds the same. I just changed a dog's name from Bandit to Deuce. Don't sound anything alike. He answers just fine to Deuce. I just treated him like I would a puppy who was learning his name---I called him Deuce 1000 times a day. Every time I talked to him I threw his new name in as much as possible.

Really? I had always heard to stick with the name. I never really understood why because it's just like have to names for another command. They think when you say their name that you want their attention, so it's really like a command in a way. I have two commands for some tricks and my dogs have always gotten it, so I never really understood why you shouldn't change a name.

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind -- I actually have a .doc file of dog names I like

Oh you lucky duck!! That's the reason why I don't volunteer at shelters or look for Aussies on sites like petfinder because I KNOW I'll see one and want it really bad but not be able to get it!!

As for names similar to Lulu (ugh I don't like that name, either) What about Lyla?? or Lilah (same pronounciation different spellings)? But yeah you don't HAVE to keep her name the same or similar. I'm sure Jamie's gone through about three name changes in her life.. her previous owner had her named Arizona... and Charlie's breeder had him named Batman!

The name you choose doesn't have to sound like Lulu at all actually. Really, all a name is to a dog is something we say to get their attention. I'm sure she'd will catch on pretty quickly to a new name just as long as you praise her whenever you say her new name and she looks at you in response, also remember to say it as often as possible when you're talking to her. A friend of my mom's just got a 5 year old dog from the Humane Society and they changed his name with no problems at all, it only took him a couple weeks to learn it...

Anyway, she is very pretty! Good luck
