Beagles are a pack dog and would not "love" to be left alone, outside, all the time. That is a typical way of thinking a beagle should live their life. Beagles need attention and training to become a good pet.

Beagles love attention and company. I have a beagle who was shoved outside, abused, neglected locked in rabbit cages and closed up in barns because he howled. what do you think beagles do ?? he was never trained never loved. I have had this dog for almost two years and he still has fears and problems that I don't think he will ever over come. He is now afraid of men, closed spaces, chains, and if someone picked up a stick meaning to play with him he would hide in a corner for the rest of the day because he was use to being beatin with sticks not playing with them. He wont enter a house not because he doesn't like to be indoors but because he is terrified of being indoors. He's afraid that if he comes indoors he wont see daylight again for a week locked up with no food or water.

Im sorry but if they don't want to give a dog everything a dog needs there is NO breed sutable for this family. I wouldn't suggest they go to a shelter to get a dog, dogs at a shelter are looking for a second chance one to be loved and cared for. Why would a dog want to be put in a situation it likely already came from ??

Im sorry your friends are probably very good people but they just are not cut out to be dog owners right now. They have to much going on in their lives right now and don't have time for a dog. Why don't you suggest they wait untill their life settles down and they are ready to take on a dog and all the time and love a dog needs ???

Tell them not to bother with any dog. It's just not fair to the dog.
Because it doesn't matter about the breed all dogs need love and shelter not to be left outside so they can greet visitors and stuff like that.

Border Collies are fine farm dogs but not for just sitting around outside the only time I would tell them to get a border was if they had sheep or livestock and they were prepared to put the time and effort in to training it. I know for a fact that Borders need love they crave it, and they will do almost anything to get that word of praise or the belly scratch, so leaving one outside would proably destroy it just like it would any other dog.

Most of you all are right, maybe they should reconsider getting a dog. Maybe they are getting a dogas a companion for their child. Once again, I think a Beagle would be suitable because it is a small breed and loves people. Beagles are pack dogs but if it were to live with a family then maybe they would be happy. Maybe you all have judged these people too soon. We were told that they are busy, but if they have time for a child maybe they also have time for a dog. Other than Beagles, I think that a Pembroke (or Cardigan) Welsh Corgi would be a nice addition to their family. I know MANY people who keep their dogs outside (particularily on large lots or farms) and the dog is perfectly happy. We had an Australian shepherd that we kept outside and he was wonderful. My friend has a Collie that saved her father's life-and the Collie lives outside.

    Answer to Question

I would have them get an English Bulldog.
My friend has one and it is more slower than a sloth. ( Well not that slow but pretty slow). But he is so lazy.
