What I don't understand is how were they ever allowed to do that in the first place? Especially without consumer's knowlege? It really chaps my a**!!

I did the right thing by setting you free
But the pain is very deep.
If only I could turn back time, forever, you I'd keep.
    I miss you

I hear you whimper in your sleep
I gently pet you and say, no bad dreams
It will be alright, to my dog as dark as night.

Fur as dark as the night.
    Join me on this flight.
Paws of love that follow me.
In my heart you'll forever be.

How I wish I could hold you near.
Turn back time to make it so.
Hug you close and never let go.

There are no laws that regulate what goes into pet food -- you can literally throw poison in pet food (which is routinely done -- ethoxyquin is a poison and is commonly used in pet foods), and it's not illegal. That's why so many companies get away with putting euthanised pets and roadkill in their food. Just because a food is AAFCO approved, does not mean it's good. All AAFCO does is make sure the food has so much protien and so much fat to make it edible (which is very innaccurate considering the amount of undigestible vegetable protien, not to mention how little vitamins are left after overprocessing the food). You're right caseysmom, it's all about profit. It's quite sad.

Well after reading this, what is the best food to feed a dog?? I didn't see Eukanuba on the list, is it still okay?? What about Nutro Maxx? I am searching for a new dog food for my 2 but after hearing all the horror stories how am I to choose a food that's healthy and safe?

PM me with answers, as I may forget to check this thread. I have a hard time remembering where I have posted questions.

I'll be glad when I switch to homemade dog food. I don't even trust the brands that you guys on pt are so fond of. Sorry but I don't think that they tell the truth or only use good ingredients. Iams and Nutro and Chicken Soup are all on the same wagon with Pedigree and all the cheap brands. I don't really even trust the meat they sell in stores for people because American standards for meat products are not very good. I'm surprised that you guys are still shocked by these findings. How long have rendering plants been making pet foods?
