I don't want to interfere or cause undo alarm, but my Gidget had 2 babies in a "normal" time, then a week later I noticed a little bleeding and when I picked her up something scratched my arm. It was the 3rd baby which had been stillborn. We had to rush her in for an emergency c-section. If Mama kitty is hissing, she is probably not comfortable and something is probably not progressing the way it should. As I said I don't want to alarm, it may be normal and if she is a young cat, one baby may not be abnormal, but I would check with someone that has medical knowledge at this point. Let us know, please!

    hi
thanks for your concern. mama will be going to the vet on monday for sure.right now the aforementioned brown puddle is gone. she is sitting kinda hunched yet.
the shelter hasn't returned my call.
there's no sign of the one stillborn kitten. could she have eaten it?
I guess I should've taken it out right away, but I was scared that if I did that, she might think i was gonna steal her babies as she had them & that i'd cause more problems. I sure didn't think she'd eat it, if that's what she did.
I'm gonna go offer her some more food soon.

I would call the shelter again and if they don't call back or there is no one there to give you some advise then call another. There has to be someone that can help. And yes it is possible that she ate the still born kitten. It sometimes happens. When a kitten is live born the clean them and eat the placenta so if the baby was still born it wouldn't be that strange for the mamma to do that as she would know there was something wrong. But you might want to have a look around where she is as she may have hidden it too. And also look and see if maybe there are other kittens. Is there anyway for you to touch her belly? At least if you could do that you could feel if there are more babies inside. I know she will probably bite and scratch but we are talking about possibly saving her life especially if there are still babies inside.

sadly, i gotta say that we cannot do what seems to be the best thing to do, which is to take her to an emergency vet & get her put under for an exam. We just can't afford it.
I would not wait until Monday to see the vets, please ring the nearest non kill shelter and hand her in, so that she will get the immediate vet care which she desperately needs.

This cat should not suffer just because of you can not afford vet care for her...give her up to a charity which can do this for her.

Ring these numbers straight away and see who can help this poor cat.

    Please help

I've been checking in throughout the day just to see how mommy is doing. Have you heard from the shelter yet? Monday is a long way off especially if mommy is in some kind of distress. As for the money part of this, I can't do much, but I'll help as best I can. I'll call you on the cell number you posted when I get home from church tomorrow. Your efforts and concern are very touching for this poor little stray. Part of what's happening is possibly she's scared in a strange place with strange people and not really knowing why she doesn't feel good. Good luck and keep us posted. Goodnight mommy cat, you're in a good place now

Thank you for the kind words.
mamakat does not SEEM to be in any distress-other than being in a strange place. She hisses at us when we approach the cage, but she has done that the entire 7 days we've had her.
two hours ago, I gave her almost a whole small can of fancy feast & she cleaned the bowl within ten minutes. I checked her an hour later & she had pooped in her litter box & covered it up. The stools were more solid than they've been since she came to be with us- (we wormed her w/nemex thursday per our vets instructions) until today she has had the splats.
I searched her cage & ever sifted her old litter, looking for the stillborn kitten. She had to have eaten it. It's not in or around her cage.

Oh, p.s. to my last message- the local shelter called back & the "administrator" there encouraged me to take her to our vet monday & have mamakat put down.
Payitforward, I don't believe there ARE any non-kill shelters. They all SAY no-kill----"unless...yadayadayada"
If mamakat seems to be suffering, if she cries or goes off of her food, we will make the trip to the emer. vet regardless of the cost. we spent over 4,000.00 last year in vet bills- mainly for our flashypants- who was in the i.c.u. at the U of M vet hospital for three days with a "fever of unknown origin".
    I'll keep you all posted.

Sorry but that "administrator" needs to be put down. What kind of person do they having running this shelter to suggest such a thing?Obviously not an animal lover as they would have tried to come up with a better solution than that. Please do keep us posted.

Hi!...This is Debbie....Mama kat appears to be comfortable, yet on guard at this hour.We now know that she has indeed eaten the Kitten.Their are no signs of contractions.I am wondering if animals expel their dead babies, then wait till nature signals it is time again to finish the birthing process?Taking sometimes DAYS after the birth of the dead one? This is quite a thing going on here!
she is quiet in there,no apparent dicomfort, eating, and using her box.I would think if there was a serious problem,we would most likely she outward signs.
    keep up the prayers!
    thanks!!

Kitty angel watching over mamma cat. There should be some signs but sometimes we don't see them. She's eating so that is good and using and that is good too. Keep us posted Debbie. Thanks a lot.

Look the links I gave you have numbers for no-kill shelters on it, please ring them all until someone will take this cat. Something sounds very wrong and waiting another 48 hours will make things worse not better.

Please take this poor sick cat to somewhere for help be it an emergency vets or a shelter.

At the very least ring up the emergency vets for advice. They will tell you over the phone what they think it is and how much it will cost and if she is suffering or not.

Don't forget that cats are use to hiding pain until it becomes unbearable, so by the time this cat stops eating it could be too late to treat her

    The brown liquid could be

'Purulent Discharge. A foul-smelling discharge from the vagina or the mammary glands signifies the need for a veterinary visit.'

Please take her to the vet. Please. There must be someone in your circle of friends or family that could spot you the money. I shudder to think what this cat **could** be going through. Please re-consider, and get her in somewhere now.
