i love hounds, I personally adore the hound smell! Hehe actually I read that about their "awful smell" in a book... it was funny because this was before we had Daisy but my parents had agreed to get her, if I read up on the breed and puppy care. I was reading this book about Bassets and telling my mom what I learned...they made those poor cuties sound awful! Now, maybe Daisy is just an abnormal hound because she has none of these awful traits but I personally don't beleive what I read in that book. It said stuff like they have a constant hound odor, their skin is so oily that it can leave smudge marks on your walls, and they all slobber. I think not! My poor mother was starting to wish she didn't agree to get that Basset! Of course she changed her mind as soon as we got her Yes, the ears do smell if you don't wash them a lot. I think they smell fishy... gross. Daisy hates to have them cleaned! Her cleaner smells like mint too, and when she sees me take it out of the cabinet, she runs. I have to dangle treats in front of her nose or she won't behave, and I still usually get spattered with ear cleaning liquis when she shakes!

Back to the shower topic: do any of you have showers with the removable shower massager things in it? I really don't know how to explain it but it makes baths so much easier. They are like these sticks that you can pull down from the wall and spray your dog like that. It eliminates the need for a bucket and it's faster and cleaner. I'd recommend them! Does anyone know what I amtalking about???

Daisy Mom, I know what you are talking about we have it to but I don't know what they are called They are handy to have and work well. They save alot of time and if your short like me are easier to reach and clean off the soap.

This is how Simba's bath goes:
First I put flea shampoo on his whole body except his head (i use Sergeant's Skip-Flea & Tick shampoo.) I wash that off and then put Hartz Groomer's Best Puppy Shampoo all over him incudling his head. I wash that out and then i brush his teeth with this hartz beef flavored toothpaste. After that i use his cool new brush adn brush him and then i dry him and brush his coat again. I did skip his bath yesterday so im going to give him a one right after im done reading all of the post!!!

Sometimes it's not good to give a dog a bath to often!! Because they have a special oil in their coats, and if you give them too many baths, you could wash out the special oil in their coats. I'm not exactly sure what happens if you do, but I know it's not that good!

    Big Slobbery kisses to Simba!!
