Oh I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I've had several rats and they are such dear pets. I never met Violette but I feel your pain.
My first rat, Pinky became Macy's (my dog) best friend. He used to clean her teeth! Macy would just lay there, real still with her mouth open. Believe me, when I first saw that, I about died! Thought maybe Macy had lost her mind! But she was just getting a cleaning. Heehee! I have had 3 since Pinky but Macy was never close to them. I think she still misses her best friend.
It's a part of life, but they never really leave us. They are always around looking out for us.
