Once I pick him up he just melts into the crook of my arm. He also allowed me to turn him over on his back and scratch his tummy (purring the entire time). I am going to give him a couple of more days, but then I need to get him his first round of shots and get tested for FLV. The good news is that he is eating and drinking well, and I haven't seen any outward signs of illness.

Is there anything else I should be doing in the meantime. When I have sick cats the SPCA has me do a regiman of vitamin C and weekly doses of vitamin D. Not sure if I should do that with such a small young kitten though.
Sounds like you are doing everything right for Kringle.
I would be very anxious to get him/her to the vet, just to have
a preliminary exam & some shots. kringle sounds like he was
found in plenty of time to help him find a great home. Such a
sweetie pie. This is so kind of you to help the little guy.

Vitamin C won't hurt Kringle, but I'd be nervous about the D for some reason. L-Lysine is a great immune system booster, and is totally harmless to cats. Many shelters are using it with considerable drops noted in URI outbreaks! I need to get ahold of some for here....and use it daily.

We have a vet appointment for Tuesday afternoon. I can't really wait any longer and put my other animals (as well as the other fosters) at risk. Even though they are all vaccinated and I try to keep good cross contamination protocol - I just can't put anyone at risk.

He is doing well though - responding well to handling, seeking attention, etc. He is going to make a great companion for someone. I am trying to handle him as much as possible, and once he is vaccinated we will start working with him to accept other people.

Again, thanks for all your help.

    P.S. QSL - where can I get L-Lysine from?

Clara, Glad the baby is doing so well! L-Lysine can be found in any health food store. Get capsules though. I bought tablets by mistake, and it's not fun smashing them with a hammer!

    Clara,

You're doing everything right! Keep on handling that baby and you'll see the hissing disappear. He/she is beautiful! Great job!

    Day 8

Thought everyone would like to see the improvement of little Kringle:

Playing like a normal happy kitten

Loving to be cuddled and scratched

I will be very happy when he is vet checked and I can get him a little more exposure to other people. A member of our organization is a cat behaviorist and is going to evaluate him this Tuesday so we can get him the best home possible.

Seeing what a happy and healthy looking baby he/she is, I doubt you'll have any problem placing the sweetie in a new home!

    Update on Kringle

Kringle is doing great. He had his first round of shots and tested negative for FLV. He does have a case of round worms, so we are treating him for that. He has turned into the most loving cat. He gets along great with other cats and dogs. The vet doesn't want to neuter him just yet as he is so small, so we are going to adopt him out and provide a neuter certificate for him when he is older. (Although we might have her do it anyway depending on who ends up adopting him - it depends on how sure we are that the adoptive parents will get it done.)

He is just a wonderful loving kitten, loves to sit on your shoulder and purrs so loud you can hear him in the next room. I'm hoping we have a great home for him soon as I need the foster space for a dog that we are taking in. Plus he deserves to live in a house and sit on someones lap 24/7.

    Clara,

, that makes me so happy to hear this. I'm really glad
he checked out well at the Vets, and his social skills have really
developed as well. Kringle will make a great pet for someone, and
he owes that to you. Thanks & hugs to the little guy.

    Clara,

What a sweet little baby he is!! I knew the more you handled him the less he'd hiss. Hissing is just a scare tactic in kittens. They're basically trying to scare you off. But as long as you don't back down, they'll chill.

    Great job!
