I use to use food coloring in mine. It looked pretty awesome
Kool-Aid Hair Dye
heehee found that link while I was looking. It is for dying wool and fiber but it may get you going - just don't put your head in the microwave!Salt & Vinegar seem to be the agents to make it work - plus heating it.
In a book I just read, they were discussing hair dyes and the things they used were henna for red and black walnuts to darken the hair. No idea how it would be done but black walnuts are really strong and even stain your skin so I imagine it would be pretty easy to darken your hair with an extract made from the boiled shells.
Have fun!
Use henna. Not only does it give your hair a nice color, but its also good for your hair...adds body, and gives it a nice shine.
I really don't know so it might help you to do a google search on it.

What do you mix it with?Originally posted by christa
Me and a friend streaked our hair RED with KoolAid when we were younger. You just have to mix it so it's real thick & leave it on for awhile.

Henna is a plant that is mostly grown in India. It has a pretty interesting history as I recall. It is mostly used in the Eastern and Arab countries as a natural haircolor and dye but you can buy it here, too. (try a natural or health store) The red type gives your hair a really pretty red highlight. I have read that it is also used for tattoos that are temporary.Originally posted by flamepony12

I used it years ago - (like 20) and one thing I remember is that once you have it in your hair, you can't use regular haircolor until it has grown out.
