Cats lie in the window and absorb sunshine, which they turn into an irrestable force, known to physics as "Cat gravity".

After a cat has absorbed enough sunshine to fill it's gravity reservoir, it finds an unsuspecting human to attack with the gravity. The results of this are the human falling asleep, giving the cat a warm place to nap and deplete it's reserves. The cat then gets up, eats, and starts the cycle all over again (Which would explain why Pippen, otherwise known as big and stupid, is a 20+ pound kitty)
