I think the main reason is that sedating lowers their blood pressure which can be pretty dangerous. I'm by no means an expert, but that's just what I read. I totally understand why you had to sedate as traveling long distances with a pet can be trying.

They have been apart for only 3 short weeks and you should have seen Buddy when Connor saw him! He ran up to him and rubed up against him and purred and purred!
