David, my hubby was diagnosed last year with diabetes and his doctor told him it was due from being overweight. Lets just say he weighed more than you. He was put on medication to control it.
The doctor said that even loosing 20 pounds would make a difference. Well he has lost 30 pounds and for the last 6 months has not had to take any medication. He would take his blood count everyday, but now takes it about 3-4 times a week and each time it has been between 5-7.

So good luck to you in loosing the weight, as I know it isn't easy, and lets hope the weight loss will put a control on your diabetes also.

Good Luck David - and positive vibes coming your way - I do hope it goes well - you'd better ask the specialist what sort of food and drink you can partake on a Thursday in the pub!

David, I hppe everything goes well.

I myself am hypoglycemic (sp?) & lactose intolerant. I basically went vegetarian since I couldn't have anything anyway. I really don't like meat in the first place although I still eat fish because I need the protein. I actually feel a lot better. More alert and more energy too. Maybe this new diet will not be as bad as you think. Think positive!!

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand and strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming WOO HOO - What a Ride!

    Diabetics

My mom's a diabetic and it's very serious about what you eat for the rest of your life. You've got to keep your mind off the tasty foods somehow, anyhow you can.And get out of the house for a drive if someone is cooking something you shouldn't eat.If they don't like you leaving it doesn't matter. This is YOUR only life.

Good luck, David. I too have a difficult time in controlling my weight. Ever since I have been trying to control my cholesterol, it has been even harder because I eat much less meat and it seems meat does have the ability to keep one satisfied for a longer period of time.

Tonight I had one of my favorite meals - which I call *Plate of Vegetables*....an ear of corn, some boiled carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower, and mashed potatoes made with fat free sour creme. I don't count calories which is probably why I am not making any progress on losing weight. I just want to feel full.

Your mom's right. This is for life. If someone is eating something sweet, I am starting to turn away. DON'T BE TEMPTED!!
