Glad your bird is doing better!

My female birds lay eggs constantly, even the ones without males around.

"We are raised to honor all the wrong explorers and discoverers - thieves planting flags, murderers carrying crosses. Let us at last praise the colonizers of dreams."- P.S. Beagle

"All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring; Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king." - J.R.R. Tolkien

    What a scare!

You have done such good things for Alex. What a good mommy you are!

I am glad that she is feeling better, hoping, and praying, for a speedy recovery!

I know they can lay eggs when there is no male around Alex used to lay eggs when she was younger and there were no males in the house. I think the doctor is thinking that being around Danny is making it worse. He said that even if Alex hears Danny it can start up another egg I really want to have them live together and I'm thinking about getting Alex a hysterectomy (I'm not sure if that's the right term for this surgery) The doc said there can still be reproductive problems if she has surgery, but I'm not sure what since she won't be able to lay eggs. I'm looking into everything so they can live together.

Alex is doing great. I just gave her her meds and put her to bed early (doctor's orders!) I'm a little worried still though because she has a bump on her tail by her butt. I'm hoping it's not another egg. I have to call Monday or Tuesday with a progress report, so I'll tell them then. Also Alex has a follow up appointment on Friday. I'm going to have to work more hours to pay my parents back (they loaned me the money and would have gave it to me, but they need it as much as I do), but Alex is worth every penny and then some!

Thanks for all the prayers. Alex, Danny, and I are eternally grateful!

I am glad little Alex is improving! My prayers are still with her and I hope she can live with her mate again. Our cockatiels lay eggs and we don't even have a male cockatiel *closest thing is our male cockatoo* We worry about egg binding CONSTANTLY especially with our older birds *spent the $$$ on the vet too, but I agree, every penny is worth it*
Good luck with Alex, give her a head scratch and feel better kiss from me! Feel better little Alex!

I'm very glad Alex is ok and improving. I lost my Twilight to egg-binding.. but it happened too fast for me to even get her to the vet

I'm so afraid it will happen again. When I spoke with the doctor on Saturday he said it can happen again and it could be soon. I'm keeping a close eye on her, but it's those instances where it happens so fast that are making me crazy. I hope if it happens again I get fair warning.

Poor Alex. I'm glad the vets could help! I just hope it doesn't happen again. Get well soon Alex!

I didn't mean to make you worry even more. I have a feeling she'll be ok now, and you are watching her closely and giving her the vitamins and such to help too. I was so not expecting it with Twi at all, and sadly I'm a bit more educated about all of it now than I was before. I do worry more about Dawn though, although she has laid several clutches now with no problems. I read it is most common with a young hen's first clutch.

I'll keep little Alex in my thoughts and prayers that she keeps doing well and no more scares for you either.

Alex seems to be improving steadily. Now when I grab her with a towel to give her the oral medications she is feistier. She squawks and wiggles, and I couldn't be happier about it. She looks good, but I'm still so worried. Also, she isn't eating all the new veggies and fruits I'm introducing to her. I think I'm going to make a separate post about that. We have another appointment on Friday, so I will give you all an update then too.
