I wish more people were like you Catmandu!!! Perhaps this lady needs to go read some posts here at PT and learn a thing or two from GOOD cat people like you guys. The fact that this angers you all says that at least you care.
Dear Prudence,
I wrote to you a while back about a cat I no longer wanted....
He had a variety of illnesses, drooled when when he was loved,
and was just a pain in the a$$.
I have a new problem.
It's my child,
He poops his pants, need a bath everyday, needs to be fed-I won't breast feed him- It reminds me too much of the way animals feed their offspring- he cries and I have to jump up at all hours of the morning!
When I brought him home his skin was peeling like nobody's business, I can't leave the house without having to cart him around with me and strangers walk up to me on the street and want to talk about my child...
I was so much happier when I had my cat. He was low maintenence, I didn't have to change diapers and got plenty of sleep.....
Did I make a mistake???
Thanks,

What idiots. After 10 years, the cat is not working out? I think it is a myth, anyway, that cats are aloof. I have never had an aloof cat. My cats have all been 'needy'.
I just wish that people who are not committed to having a companion animal for 15-20 years would NOT adopt one.
I think a big problem is a lot people don't realize that pets can live that long. They don't consider it a possible 15+ year commitment. Heck, most don't even cosider a pet an 8 year commitment. Around here most people I know are amazed that Ripley and Disney are 12+ years old. Some have even made the comment that I must pamper them to get them to live that long.Originally posted by catlady1945

Dear Mother,
Yes, you made a terrible mistake! People simply don't have that kind of time to fritter away on child care. You should go to the shelter where you took the cat and see if they will trade you the cat for the child.
Then go get a sterilization procedure.

Thats just dreadful. Not only is she calling all you wonderful people here *unusual* but she is also stating that its ok to dispose of elderly animals because they have differing needs now.
Is she actually giving the thumbs up to the disposable pets phenomenon that we all see?
