I visited our sorry excuse for a shelter twice last week. It literally tore me to pieces. As soon as I walked into the cat room, they all just started screaming for me to come and set them free..... it just broke my heart. It's funny what thoughts go through your mind ..... I even had visions of "accidentally" opening their cages and setting them all free! Our "shelter" ... "humane" society is HIGH KILL!!!!!

Just imagine... if we woke up one day and no longer had a home. We were thrown into a cage where we had to live and we didn't understand why! Where are all my loved ones? Where is my favorite chair? Where is my plate and glass that I used every day?
Where is my bed? I want my MOMMIE!

(But we are the ones who would never do that! The ones who actually do that would never come to a place like this and read all these stories)

There is a story somewhere on the internet, told by a dog who was given to the shelter when his family got a new baby. Because the dog was old and unadoptable, he's been put to sleep. It's a heartbreaking story and it made me cry bitter tears, and the sadest thing is that his happens so many times, every day.

I wonder why people are doing this to animals! Just learned that our neighbors once had a little dog. They wanted to have him because he was cute as a pup. Later, they decided he was too much work for them, so they brought him to the shelter. Now they have a new dog btw, and I wonder for how long he will stay. People like this really make me mad!

I HATE pet owners that treat an aminal like a used kleenex. When I was looking another kitty, I wanted an older kitty that someone wuuld give away becase he or she "got a little old"1

It is just a shame that cats who have given MANY good years of companionship, end up in shelters or at a vets office to be PTS. I have been known to adopt those, just so they can live out their lives as they should and I will do it again. It is not their fault a owner got sick, was moving, or died. My Mom's kitty is still alive and well, 5 years after Mama died. As long as we have her, we still have a piece of Mama and it will be a totally SAD day when we loose her baby!

I gave Nikki and Daisy a chance to live a normal cat life and NOT spend it in a shelter or foster care. If my space wasn't limited, I'd do it again.

I missed this thread the first time around. All of these cats look so scared. I sure hope that they'll all find loving forever homes.

All of my cats are rescues too. Storm was abandoned by his owner because he didn't want him any more. People like this shouldn't be allowed to adopt animals. They need to realize that it's a life long commitment.

I agree wholeheartedly. I was in my local Petco the other day and our local animal rescue league had some cats for adoption. I saw one poor kitty and the reason she was givwen up. quote " she missed the litter box once " That made me sick. UGH

They are all so special, and to be honest I am finding it very hard to NOT get emotionally involved. It is a high-kill shelter (no choice as we have limited space and NO government funding).

The worst thing is getting to know a litter, and then going back in and the litter having been "downsized"to 2 or 3 out of 6 or 7. I actually avoid taking pictures of the litters of kittens now, as I don't want constant reminders of all the ones who have been put to sleep.

I HATE going there, as I would love to bring them all home, but I also HATE not being there, because then I know they are on their own.

I have just go back from Dubai, so I will go down to the shelter tomorrow, and give you all an update then.

Thanks Kay for my great sig & avatar!!!

Oh no, this is so hard!! To be honest, I don't know if I could do that, going there and knowing that so many of them will be PTS because there are no homes for them! Like you, I would want to take them all home but know it's impossible! It's wonderful of you to go there and help!

It would be very rough for me to go in there and look at their faces knowing that most of them would probably be PTS.
