I have been wanting to get a Tigar Oscar. I have been looking at one at Walmart. I just need to know more about them. I think they are so cute, The way their eyes follow you. Do you have any advice for me?

can u afford to get it a 100 gallon tank within its first year?

I wish the guy who sold me oscar asked me that question. Cause I would have never bought her.

Oscar turned 2yrs this month & I've spent over $500.00 on her
For meds, tank upgrades & filter upgrades, but mostly meds.

& if u do get one, keep it the hell away from life foods (dew worms r ok). I had no idea how dangerous goldfish were to oscars, they almost killed my poor baby (they gave her hole in head)

Wow! Thanks for that advice. They seem like such sweet fish! Thay act like they can have interactions with humans. Sounds like they are fast growers.

Your oscar is such a pretty fish.

they're sweet when they are young, but become agressive & bite at around age 1 1/2, well thats when Oscar first bit my "whole" thumb, it didn't hurt, just scared the doo doo out of me.

But there in no way I'm gonna give Mango the chance to bite me, damn, I'd loose alot of blood hehehe

    Oscar:

I know its dark but u can see Jacks back & tail

I have been looking at oscars every time I go near where they have fish, for like 5 years. I must have a strange atraction to biting creatures, because I have even been looking at Tarantulas! (Thank goodness I investigate first) I still like them. They are just beautiful creatures.

What made you develope your interst in the fish you have? They look healthy and well cared for. Must be a lot of hard work.

Thank you again for your input. You told me things, I have not been able to find out from my books. You have got me thinking a lot more about it.

Your fish are great, I use to have 2 red Devils also, a male and female, they were very hardy fish. They always tore up the tank too. With a fish that size it's a good idea to give them a thick gravel bed so the can build thier own home. If they have enough they will push it up to all 4 sides. It makes then feel safe. Have you tried lage rocks in the tank as ornaments, he wont be able to tear that up. Any lagre rock you find out in the yard, just wash it well and do a PH, alkalinity, etc. test after it's been in there to be sure it didn't effect your water. My tank is full of slate rock and other rocks. Big fish = Big ornaments/everything.

Also, you know that red devil are only mid aggressive fish, maybe yours has a real bad attitude.

Here's a picture of my albino Oscar (flex), had her sence she was 1/2" long (baby) She almost 4 years old now. I don't know who told you that Goldfish gave your Oscar hole in the head or that they are even bad. It was most likely that the goldfish where sick or something in the water did it. But goldfish are fine to feed to them if they are healthy goldfish. Just don't keep the goldfish in there too long (days) They produce high ammonia levals. My Flex had been feed them for years now, she has never been sick.

The wolf on my wall is one of my many animal shap puzzles. I'm not sure where it was bought, because dad bought them all for me out of a magazine. & since he lives in PEI & I don't talk to him anymore, I don't think I'll ever know.

The photos don't do his colour justice, its super shiny & sooo breath taking, everyone loves to just look at him when their in my room.

It's so nice to see someone who will actually keep and take care of the fish they buy. I have so many people that drop off fish (and animals) at my store. "He got too big", "I'm allergic"(something you should find out before buying a pet. You can go to the store and hold them first.)"He/She doesn't take care of it anymore." That's my favorite, did you really expect a six year old to clean out there hamster cage every week!? I'm sorry, I kind of got off the subject. It's just that it's nice to see someone looking at thier fish as actual pets, not just a fish. And you didn't do anything wrong HE'S a RED DEVIL! Try decorating with actual rocks more and PVC pipe. They love to swim through them. Have you tryed a large catfish with him, or large barbs? They aren't competion to him so he might leave them alone.
    Good Luck!

He killed both my 1 1/2 yr old 10 inch suckers (pleco).

He's moved a 5 pound rock. hes put little rocks into the Out in the filter, he spits rocks on the floor so I can step on them. He's just EVIL!! But I love him

oh & he smashes his face on the lip trying to kill water drops forming on the lid, OI!!

Besides, there isn't enough room inside his tank for more or bigger things, hes a big fish in a small tank

But if we get a car soon, we can move to almont with Max's old Temp owner & we'll be getting larger tanks then
