What the rescue did here is unforgivable. They committed to take the dog then dumped him on a transporter. I'd like to know who did this - would you send me the name of the so-called rescue group either via this board or privately.

More importantly though, have you found a place for this dog or is he still at your house? His petfinder page says he's in GA. Is that where you are located? I'll ask a rescuer friend of mine if she might be able to find some space somewhere.

Earlier in the month, I was going out of town, and sort of forced the rescue person place Buddy in her local shelter. I received an email this morning, that she has an appication for Buddy's adoption and she will be doing the vet reference and home visit, so hopefully he will be placed soon.

I don't fault the rescue person with us having Buddy for a little while. She does an excellent job fostering and coordinating transports. I have signed up to help with a transport this weekend. One dog on the transport has been in her foster care for about 3 years.

If this transport goes as planned, it will make our total transports for 2003 over 4500 miles.

    Glad to hear that, Scott.

I called my friend in Alabama who rescues Coonhounds to tell her about Buddy, on my way home from work tonight. She wanted a picture. She'll take other dogs, but Coonhounds are her choice. And she knows that I''m not too good at identifying them, as this month was really the first time I've worked with any.

I'm glad Buddy may be getting a home. If it doesn't happen though, please let me know.

Great job on all that transporting you've done!! That's awesome!

BTW, did you know that all those transport miles are tax deductible, as long as the rescue involved is 501c3? Since you've driven so much, you probably knew that, but a lot of people don't think of that.

Last year, I was able to deduct 1436 miles (969 transport, 467 foster), which at 14 cents a mile, was around $200. This years deduction will be over $600

mugsy, I don't do many transports, 15 this year and about 11 last year.

I did one transport in March, I live near Atlanta, I picked up 4 poodles from Alabama, took them to the GA/SC line, swapped them for a pregnant Rat Terrier, and took her to Stockbridge, GA. It was about 460 miles for the whole trip.

I can relate to that!! Mike almost drove from Fort Wayne to Evansville (almost 6 hours) to pick up a dog and then drive her to Valparaiso (5 1/2 hours north of Evansville) and then back to Fort Wayne (another 2 hours). It's amazing what we will do for the needy ones.....but, if we don't it won't get done. Thanks for all you do Scott.

This weekend, I was told Buddy did get that new home. He is now living in the country with lots of room to play.
