Skin problems can be related to even ear yeast infections. My Sandy had frequent yeast infections in one ear, my vet said it indicated he would be prone to be allergic and sure enough, he had a flare up right after that. Not related to thyroid, but a reaction to ant bites. Got any biting ants in your yard? Caused a mess on his tummy, itchy rash, sore spots, red skin, and swollen eyes. There are so many little critters in the grass. We've all got our paws crossed too, hoping the vet finds the solution to her weight problem fast. It's no fun feeling bum, especially in the summer. Here's wishing you a real happy and fun vacation. And don't fret while you're supposed to be having fun, your babies are only a call away.
Oh! Dearest friend Logan! I, too am playing catch up, even tho you told me in an email. I hope everything with our lovely Lilly goes OK. I know you are so careful what you feed the girls. I've heard that a thyroid condition is easily reversed with medication. Hope it's that easy. Don't forget to let us all know what the outcome is before you go on vacation!! I'll miss you terribly and thnk of you everyday! xoxoxoxox
Logan,
HOw is Lilly today? she must be getting more spoiled! Is she going on vacation with you? paws crossed that all the pups get healthy quick to enjoy the summer.

Logan:
Carina and I are sending best wishes for a quick recovery to Lilly.
Both allergies and thyroid problems are frequent in Goldens but, fortunately, there are remedies for both. My first Golden had terrible allergies to just about everything, grass, polen, newspaper ink (although she didn't read the paper ;D )
She had to have cortisone shots every couple of weeks and they helped a lot.
Hope you have good news before you go on vacation so you can enjoy your time away.

How's Lilly? Hope she's feeling OK. Let us know!

You guys are so sweet to worry about Lilly. Actually, she never has acted like she felt bad at all! LOL!! And I never even caught her messing with those bad legs....but she was. She's taking the medication and hopefully the legs will heal nicely. And tomorrow, we will find out about the blood work and determine a course of action. I'll be sure to fill you in when I hear something.
Right now, Miss Inside Lilly, is out in the backyard with Honey, whining and crying at something on the other side of the fence. I swear I see nothing, but they do!! It is definitely not a turtle, although it may have been and they just haven't figured out that it is long gone!!!! Whatever it is, they have been obsessed with it for over two hours now!!! Silly, silly girls!![]()
Any word on Lilly yet? SO anxious to hear the results. Give her a big hug and kiss. And Logan, maybe not a turtle.....perhaps the dreaded SNAKE!????
I couldn't get online yesterday but today I came on and saw this... I hope Lilly is okay! Let us know how the tests come out. Daisy and I will be worried until we know everything is okay!
Here's an update on Lilly:
Well, it appears that our overweight Lilly is destined to be a "thunder thighs" like her mother (human mother, that is)!!! Although, I must say that Lilly's weight is mostly around her middle. For those of you who missed my earlier message, Lilly gained 14 pounds between December 2000 and this week. This, after I have cut back her food (but changed brands). Lilly weighed in at 82 pounds in Dec. 96 on Wednesday. We walk several times a week, but I see that increasing as well.
I have missed two calls from the vet, but his last message was that the thyroid level is in the normal range (he said 2.2, but between 1 and 4 is considered normal). Now I'm starting to do some analyzing. My girls started on Flint River Ranch in January. I don't think that food is the problem....it may be the 1/2 can of Iams I am adding each day. That is coming to a halt this week, as we will go to 1/3 of a can, and then less and less. Other than that, they get zero table scraps. And according to Dr. Robinson's message, we need to increase the exercise for Lilly as well. I will have a more thorough conversation with him later today before I leave on vacation tomorrow.
Thanks for your support. Guess I'm glad it isn't something serious, but now we will have to do a more regimented diet, and keep the girls separated to eat. That way I can control what Lilly's intake is. Got to get the weight off. Maybe she and I can go on a "crash diet" together.
Logan
Logan,
So glad to hear that Lilly's problem isn't serious!!![]()
Maybe Shiloh can join Lilly in her quest to loose weight! Have a great and relaxing vacation!

Logan, that is good news, Lilly will go the way of most women, diet, diet, exercise, exercise, poor Lilly. I hope you have a wonderful vacation and let us know how it all turned out when you get back.

Logan I am so glad Lily does not have anything serious wrong that caused her weight gain. I do know that when I started my dogs on Innova from Eukuneuba (sp?) I decreased their portions dramatically because the food is so much more rich and filling. Cassie went from getting 1-1/2 cups per day when she was with her last owners, to only 3/4 cups a day. Graham went from getting 2 cups of Eukuneuba to 1-1/4 or less of Innova....and they both have pleanty of body fat still (especially Cassie). Hopefully the food thing will work out and the girls will lose those extra inches.
Now I just have to figure out a way to feed them seperately, and exactly how much each of them can have. Then, I'll have to get them off of the supplemented Iams canned that I give to them because I feel so sorry for them! LOL!!
And we will all get thinner because we have to walk more!!!
Thanks everyone. I'm going to put a plan together this week while I'm away, and stick to it, for Lilly's sake. Aren't we lucky that it isn't something more serious? You guys are the greatest. Thanks so much.
Logan
