I think this is wonderful news, Liz! Good for you, and good for him too. I'm a true believer that things happen for a reason. He needed you, for sure! And being able to help these poor guys seems to be something you are very good at!

    Congratulations.

and PS. I think we should remove the "vacancy" signs from in front of our homes, don't you??

What a wonderful story! Good for you, and best for the kitten. What did you name him?
Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is a full management plan in which stray and feral cats already living outdoors in cities, towns, and rural areas are humanely trapped, then evaluated, vaccinated, and sterilized by veterinarians. Kittens and tame cats are adopted into good homes. Healthy adult cats too wild to be adopted are returned to their familiar habitat under the lifelong care of volunteers

Liz, ah yes, I know about those signs. Someone put them up in front of my house too. I swear sometimes I think they are in pink neon that only I cannot see.

One very lucky young man now has a good chance at a long life filled with love and care.

You are welcome to use the name I gave my little love, my black cat MAGIC. He was indeed that and had a long history of illness before he came to me.

He was just a gentle giant.

You are such a special person.

How about Drifter for a name? He did sort of drift in.

Yes, I only wish I could find the darn thing. LOL.

I called the Vet's office to check on him today. They said his toe
is doing well( a little red yet), but o.k. & the hock injury is "coming along". When I reported that he had lost the toe I hope you all
knew that by that it meant he was "declawed" on that toe. He
lost the digit. He might not be able to climb as well as he might.
The infection in his leg must have been very bad as I thought he
should be much improved by now. Looks like the soonest he can
come home is the end of the week.(Maybe) I'm going to run by the office after work tonight or tomorrow to remind myself what
he looks like and give him a little hug.

Well I went to visit my kitty at the vet's yesterday & he is
doing better medically, but I was very shocked to see him. He
did indeed lose the whole toe(looks like two missing) on the
right paw. His hock injury is drying up (no infection). The injury
looks quite extensive as you can see it better with the area
shaved. He had trouble balancing on that foot when he was in
the cage. I took him out & held him & talked to him a lot. I was
very surprised to see that his right eye looked strange. It was
turned to the right & his other eye looked straight ahead.
My regular Vet was not there & the other Vet said that the eye
infection must have spread to the optic nerve. She said that the
eye should return to normal in a few weeks time. They still didn't
want to release him for a few more days. I was so disappointed
to see him look so different. After I put him back inside the
cage & got ready to leave, I stooped down & put my face next
to his face & talked to him about getting well again & that I would
be back to take him home with me.You're all going to think me
crazy but, I swear I think he understood me & he watched my
face very carefully the whole time I was talking to him(with his
good eye). I felt so sorry for him as I left but I tried to sound
cheerful for him. Do you think the other cats would be frightened
by his appearance? I hope not. Poor baby.

Well said, Sara! Liz, I think you need not worry. I'm so glad he is improving. I think you and everyone who is following this story will feel so much better when he is settled in your home.

Hugs to you for the good thing you are doing.

To me no other cats would even care about his appearance.

And I don't think your crazy at all. I think he really did understand you. I think mine do sometimes, so why should he be any different

I'm so glad your taking this sweet thing into your home & life!

It's heartbreaking what this poor baby has suffered, but only a few more days now and he should start getting to know how good life can be!

The cat across the road from us had to have a toe amputated a few years back after taking an infection from a ripped claw. He's been fine ever since - it didn't even slow him down. Sometimes though, when you catch him doing something naughty, he puts on a pathetic look and gives that paw a little shake. It is very funny.

Hope you get the little one home soon.
