Yes they do have spines. Speedy pokes me sometimes, when I try to wake him up during the day to clip his nails/give him a bath he'll get cranky, roll up into a ball and then hiss at me. I should try to get a wave file of him hissing, it's the coolest thing. He wasn't so tame when I got him, so he will do that every once in a while.

I don't expect anything like this from this girl, unless it's a stranger trying to handle her or what not. She's very tame. She's only rolled into a ball once, and that was when she met Speedy.......before I noticed mites crawling all over her. Guess that taught me a lesson huh. Look harder before intros.

Well the current "owner" ( I wouldn't call him that) sent me some pics of some of the rescue possums I will be taking in. It sounds like the situation is worth than I thought.

This guy must be mad! First he tells me his older females are loosing their ears. Well at first glance of the photo you can tell they have mites and are most likely dehydrated. The one girls ears look horrible, not to mention they are housed on what looks like pine/cedar. One pictures shows a male who has a gash in his side, is missing nails on his front feet, and looks to have an eye infection? His eye may just be closed though.....but it looks suspicious. Then guess what else? He feeds them rodent LAB BLOCKS! My god, could this guy be any stupider?

It's all about money. He was telling me how he got his original stock from back east, for the money, and he has to get rid of them because he's not making any money and cannot take it anymore. He was complaining how he spent $3,000 dollars in the past three months. Ya so! I spent about $2,000 dollars on my rats alone every month. Who cares! That's what happens when you get a pet, duh!

And then he went on and on about how he's a single father with an 11 year old child, and recently divorced. I wanted to say " Well maybe if you had a brain she would have stayed with you longer".

The worst part was this, and it made my mouth drop! He said he has mastered the art of "Bullshitting"......his exact words. He found a way to ship his possums Fedex and UPS. Hrrm, nice eh? He said that those companies ship mealworms and crickets, so he would put the possum in a small glass enclosure and put an orange in their face, and because of the orange they won't move. Then he piles a bunch of crickets on top of them, so you can see them, and since the orange is there the possum won't move. Nice! He's sent them as far as Texas, in a tiny box, with no circulation, water or food.

This is HIGHLY illegal!!! Talk about a moron! I suspect he is not USDA licensed, and I will be making a call to my USDA worker (the guy who does my inspections) and having a nice lengthy chat with him. But first I want to try to get as many possums out as I possible can. And he's trying to sell them to me......for $40 bucks, even ones with missing tails. So I need to figure out what to do. I am thinking I can take the worse ones, after I convince him I will NOT buy them, do a thorough inspection of his house (while I take a long my digital camera, hehe) and see what I find. I want to have as much info as I possible can. Then I will nail him!

The sad thing is most of the females are pregnant, so if I take in some girls I will soon have babies. Oh yes which brings me to another thing he told me. He has a "patched" girl who he wants to breed just to have a new color. Well he bred her twice and she abborted both times, and he's bred her again! It's ALL FOR MONEY!

I will try to attach one of the pics he sent me...........hopefully it will go through. I want to leave it big so you can see the poor condition they are in. This is the boy who has a gash in his front leg, which is plainly visible.

And the funny thing is........I have permission to use these pics. LOL What a dumb guy.

Ok this is the last pic. I will try to take my own pics once they are here, or when I go to his house/he brings them to me. Another thing he said that strikes me odd is that he said he could drive over here, pick me up and take me to his house. I was like um, no, not without someone else going with me. So a close friend of mine is thinking of comming along, or he will be bringing them over here in his truck.........I just need to go over there at least once to see how they are kept/try to find out more.

I do not know if this one is a male or a female. It looks like it's in apparent good shape.
