I had an English Cocker when I was in junior high and high school. Wonderful, beautiful, even-tempered, great dog. However, I groom and board a couple English cockers that are very aggresive, unpredictable dogs.
I have an Amerian cocker now, she is almost 14 years old. She has been a wonderful dog. Smart, quiet, clean, good-natured. Couldn't ask for a better dog. But I groom and board many American cockers that are truly stupid, and a couple that are mean and nasty.
I personally will not get either one of these breeds again. I don't want to deal with the coat anymore. I'm all about short-haired, "wash and wear" dogs at this point in my life. I also don't want to deal with the ear infections and warts and moles as they age. American cockers don't exactly age gracefully, a lot of the time.
"We give dogs the time we can spare, the space we can spare and the love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made" - M. Facklam
"We are raised to honor all the wrong explorers and discoverers - thieves planting flags, murderers carrying crosses. Let us at last praise the colonizers of dreams."- P.S. Beagle
"All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring; Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king." - J.R.R. Tolkien
