I agree. And I see that this person hasn't been back to respond to us....hmmmmm
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand and strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming WOO HOO - What a Ride!

I honestly don't think everyone should just start getting worked up about this. judymin just stated what was on her mind, something that bothered her. Just like the sig and grammar threads.

Look please don't get angry with me I am just ranting here! If this offends anyone I apoligize!
She wasn't out to get anyone, just saying what she thought. You don't have to accuse her of what she posted. I don't mind "baby talk" at all but no need to get defensive about it. It's not like she came out and just started bashing everyone.

I don't want to start anything, I just felt a bit bad how everyone is getting worked up so easily when she really didn't see anything bad.

That's all I had to say

I wasn't getting worked up, I just enjoy the so-called baby talk and was hopeing that the people on PT who use it won't stop using it because some people find it childish.

I agree but I don't think those who seemed a bit defensive, should.

Too much time on their hands...

At any rate, this IS a board for people who love their pets. A natural extension of loving any other creature is "silly" pet names. We call our husbands/boyfriends silly names, and if we love our pets, they too are stuck with them!

Personally, I find these affectionate terms very endearing and a heart-warming sign that people here do love their pets. There are much worse things that people could say to/about their animals!

Mum to two little humans, a very vocal 14 year old Ragdoll, and a super energetic and snuggly rescue kitten.

I don't notice when people use "silly" terms. I see "furkids" an awful lot, but I've come accustomed to the word as a word to describe our adopted animal friends.

Hmm -- they have fur -- we adopted them -- that makes us our kids with fur -- hence then name, furkids.

And the only time I hear "purrsons" is when our pets are "talking" on PT. I personally love to hear what the pets have to say, even if it is all just fun and games. We all know that it isn't REALLY our pets, but hey, imagination is healthy for the mind. And Cinder and Smokey are too cute!!!

Well, I figured I would be shot down, thats ok as I was just expressing an opinion. Many of you got defensive even though I apologised for any offense taken. It seems quite a sentitive subject! I was never stopping anyone from using the terms, where did you get the idea? Those terms are something I would never use, thats all. As for the term baby talk, it was the only thing I could think of at the time. I have two cats and love them very much and I am glad you all love your pets. I think there was only one or two who did not take offense.Again I was just expressing my feelings.

I don't so much mind the baby talk-It's when people become their animals or write as they think the animal would write-they make grammatical errors and spelling mistakes-give the beasties more credit(intelligence) if you are going to write for them.

Yeah, I think it was this that made me post as I was thinking about a certain poster who writes in that style all the time! I mean I belong to a cat group and you hardly ever see posts like that. Look I have nothing against cuteness and terms of endearment but it's when it is all the time it gets to be, well, whatever...... Look, I am a nice person, really I was just expressing an opinion! You don't have to get so gosh darn offended! Maybe you can channel your anger to something more productive, like animal abuse, poverty, child and spouse abuse! I can think of way better causes than my little rant!

Ohhhh so that's what you mean. I thought you just meant the words furkids or feathered kids, etc. but yes, honestly, I too find it kind of annoying when people pretend to be their pets typing and purposely misspell every word in the post. I mean, its ok to do every once in a while, but on every post? I honestly skip those posts because its much to hard to read them, and even understand them. There's another bird board that I go to every now and then, and they have a seperate forum for the *birds* to post, using all funny misspelled words. That's where people pretend they are their birds talking. That type of posting is only done on that particular forum, and not at all on the rest of the board, however, feathered kids, or *fids* is used throughout.

I read many of the posts and I notice a lot of baby talk or silly terms like purrsons or furbaby or furson. A little of that is cool but some people just use it all the time! You have the perfect right to say what you want of course but why all those terms? Are we not all over 5 years old here? Look please don't get angry with me I am just ranting here! If this offends anyone I apoligize! Sorry, it is just so much mush! Just a rant!
im not in the least bit offended!

maybe we're just so used to talking to our pets in baby talk we started talking to people in baby talk?
