I have a question. I don't know about rats/mice, so forgive me if its a dumb one.
Do they make rat kibble? Or mouse chow? Or are they like birds where you feed them seed, but supliment their diet?

...RIP, our sweet Gini...
The recommended diet for rats (and mice) is a base of lab blocks (I use Harlan Teklad blocks) supplemented with lots of grains and fresh fruits and veggies.
They make seed mixes and such for rats, but they're generally recommended against, as the rats will pick out their favorites and not get all the required nutrition.
You can also supplement their diet with things like mealworms, Nutro dog food, nuts, instant oatmeal (a hit at my house!), and sweets like yogurt, VERY small amounts of chocolate, mine like fish food, etc.
There are things that are forbidden (Like Blue Cheese, it's toxic to them) but generally they'll eat just about anything! Tonight my girls got Fajita leftovers (steak, bell peppers, a dollop of sour cream, tortillas), corn on the cob, and a bit of watermelon. They're always soooo happy to get the fresh stuff! ^_^
Edit: if you're wondering, lab blocks are a pelleted food formulated to be a complete diet. They look rather like large round dog kibbles.
Thank you Wolf_Q!
