Ask that question to a hundred Pet Owners and a hundred Vets...
and you'll probably get 201 different answers!

ALL of the either TradeMarked or Prescription drugs and supplements *CLAIM* to do things bigger & better than the cheaper generic versions...
Very Hard to tell what's truth and/or fiction!

And... every Pet will react a little differently to almost anything they're given. When *I* talked to Doc Mike about the various supplememnts available to help Smokey's knee - he pointed out that the Vet Rx: drugs were "supposed" to be a lil bit "better"... but his OWN use of the generic Glucosamine did an acceptable job on his own knees. Could he get *better* results with a more expensive drug? That's the million dollar un-answered question.

I'd suggest going along with the New Vet's suggestions - for a while. If progress is made - then ask if trying a less expensive alternative drug/supplement should be considered and tried. You can always return to the high-priced flavor if you notice an unacceptable change in Angus.

LOL I know that feeling about $$$. We never leave the vet's office without supplementing their pockets with at least a hundred dollars.

Fortunately except for last week (another $100 for complete exam and blood work) we haven't been for a while.

Change of food 2 years ago to Innvoa, (I posted a reply to your other message) and the Glucosamine/Chondroitin have supplemented MY pocket book
