yes that would be unfair. I never thought of that. I get your point now.. But a guinea pig is alot of responsibility, more then a rabbit is.

    what do you mean how?
Do some research on guiena pigs and you'll see how much work they can be. I have a friend who owns one, they are so sweet and cute, but they have to be cleaned ALOT!! and they need to have a cage mate. Also they have to have vitamin suppliments and alot of vitamin C in their diet because they cannot produce it them selves.

I personally don't know much about Thelmer (being a house pet indoors, outdoors..? I don't know) I just hope he goes to a good home and I support her in her descision.

Rabbits also need a specific diet, their litter box needs cleaning - I do not think a guinea pig needs MORE care than a rabbit, every kind of pet has its own needs. That is like comparing apples and oranges. Some people may like apples better, some oranges, that doesn't mean either person is "right" or "wrong."

It is harder to care for a guinea pig face it.

you can litter trian a rabbit and you dont have to clean out their hutch or kenel as much as you have to clean out a guinea pigs. And A guinea pigs diet is WAYY more complex then a rabbits Karen. Trust me I wanted a guinea pig befor I got Angel, Then desided not to because they are too hard to care for compared to a rabbit.

I disagree. You certainly should clean a rabbit's litter box as often as a guinea pig's cage, unless your piggie has a really small cage and very little litter. I think each animal has its own needs, and we can leave it at that.

I think it is a bit easier to clean a litter box then a whole cage I'd Say!

Of corse you clean the litter box, I didnt say you were not to. I just said if your rabbit was litter trained then you dont have to clean the HUTCH or KENEL as much compared to a guinea pig.

Even if a rabbit was'nt litter trianed and it lived in a hutch or kenel or cage, and peed and pooped where ever in the cage. You would still have to clean a guinea pigs cage more often then you would rabbits. because Guiena pigs pee more. Simple as that.

Exactly. I personaly have owned both a rabbit and guinea pigs and I found the guinea pigs to be easier to care for. Thats just from my experiences...

Awwwww. That is SO sad! Thelmer has always been my favorite PT bunny. I'm sure you will send her to the best of homes and be sure that she recieves proper care and attention. Its really sad that you are giving her away. I can't imagine how poor Thelmer will feel. Good luck Thelmer!

Hey, do you think you can hang on to Thelmer until you move/? Since you're moving right by me, I can get her into rescue here. I have a contact in the rabbit rescue in Austin and they are a wonderful group!

I am so sorry to hear about your decision about Thelmer. I know you have her best interest at heart, as much as it hurts to make the decision I think you are doing the right thing.

I have the same question about the pig though: How will you make time for a GP if you don't have time for Thelmer now? I'm not trying to criticize, you probably have something wored out already. Just curious.

    Thank you Wolf_Q!

I agree with Tikeyas mom in a way, I am a professional per sitter and in my experiences and have also owned a piggie, piggies are more work in the toilet department.

I also think that before having an animal that the committment should be there, we can't just change animal to animal when we feel like it, A PET IS FOR LIFE! And before we buy one or rescue one we should take into consideration all aspect like cost and how much time we have for it.

This is no critisism on any particular individual, just some personal thoughts. I feel very strongly about this.

Rottie Lover - I hope you find Thelmer a good home, please, before you get a piggie, consider it and weigh up the pros and cons. Good Luck.

I am very sorry that you have to make this decision. I just hope that your family did not presure you into THINKING that you don't have the time for Thelmer, because that would REALLY be a shame.
