Just go to the AKC web site and search for obedience. Maybe that will help you. But here is some info:

    CD (Companion Dog), Novice
    CDX (Companion Dog Excellent), Open
    UD (Utility Dog), Utility
UDX (Utility Dog Excellent), Utility and Open
OTCH (Obedience Trial Champion), Utility and Open

Iris Von Der Felzen Haus CD, CGC, 2 legs of NA

These are all the obedience titles you can get. For your CD you have to get a qualifying score in Novice (heeling, stand for examination, recall, heeling off leash, long sit stay and down stay) 3 times.

For your CDX you have to get 3 qualifying scores in Open (all of leash - heeling, drop on recall, retrieve a dumbbell, retrieve a dumbbell while going over a jump, a long jump, and very long sit stay and down stay).

For your UD you have to get 3 qualifying scores in Utility (Utility stand for exam and recall, Directed Jumping, directed retrieve, signal exercise - where you can't talk to the dog, they must heel, stay, sit, down, and come all on hand signals, scent discrimination, I think there might be more - I just can't remember)

For your UDX you have to quailify in Open and Utility on the same day, 10 times.

For your OTCH you have to get 100 points. The way you earn points is what place you get in Open or Utility (1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th) and how many dogs you defeated.

I am seriously impressed here. I really respect all you people with such well-behaved doggies! Daisy is a good girl and does what I tell her most of the time but she is not HALF as obedient as someone like Carl or Iris! You guys are amazing.

I have a question does your dog have to be pure bred and if not how do you get involoved?

From what I understand, only purebreds can get the CD title, but any dog can earn the CGC (Canine Good Citizen). Is this right?

From what I understand, the dog has to be purebred to get the CD. I do know for sure that any mixed breeds or purebreeds can get the CGC.

I'm so happy for Iris and Carl!!!! ShepherdLover, I was looking at all of my previous topics, and when I was reading my topic, "Different Kinds of Collars and Leashes", when I came across your post, it said, "It's amazing how Iris know which collar is for what!" And I was wondering, how does Iris know which collar is for what? Because if you know, I'd like to train Sadie that, because she has a lot of different collars!!! Thanks!

To get a CD, a dog has to be AKC registered.

Since I've been doing agility and obedience for so long, Iris knows which collar is which. If you start doing obedience just with a choke chain, then she'll learn that obedience means choke chain.

    I hope that makes sense!

For all AKC events, your dog has to be purebred to compete. There is another organization like the AKC called the UKC ( http://www.ukcdogs.com ) mixed breeds can compete in agility, obedience and any other events that they hold. The only down-side to UKC is that there are not as many shows as AKC.

In UKC all mixed breeds are registered as AMBOR. I'm not sure what it means, but it's just like Carl would be registered as a Rottweiler or Iris would be registered as a German Shepherd. Mixes are AMBORs

To register a mixed breed, or any other dog without papers, in UKC you need to get an LP (limited privelege) #. Go to http://www.ukcdogs.com/forms.html and click on "Application for Limited Privilege (LP) Program (11/98)". You will get a form that you can print out to register one of your dogs.

I hope this helps a little!
