    I'm totally guessing on these.

    1. By the color of the cere - the skin above the beak. Pinkish or white in females, blue or purple in males. (Ok, I knew that one.)

    2. The parolet?

    3. True

    Ok .... questions .....

    1. Name three species of birds that are now extinct.

    2. Name a species of bird kept in the pet trade that was never a wild bird, but has always been a domesticated hybrid.

    3. Which species of birds are raised on "milk" as babies, by their mothers?

    4. What distinquishes whether or not a bird needs grit in its diet?

    5. Which family of birds are the clearest, best and most prolific talkers? (Hint: It is NOT parrots.)

And I've always heard the opposite about covering birds. I've heard that it's not necessary, doesn't keep them any warmer, and actually promotes night frights by making it completely dark in their cage. I've heard it's best to keep them uncovered in a warm room, with a dim nightlight on, so that if they do get frightened, they can see to get back on their perch.

But, that's the pet fancy for you .... ask ten people a question and get ten different answers ... not matter what the question is or who you ask.

Doesn't matter much in my case ... there is no way I can cover my bird cages. They are much, much, much too big ... I'd have to stand on a step ladder and cover them with a bed sheet! And that's certainly not going to happen!
