Well, tomorrow is the day we get to go pick up another sickie. He had complications from the neutering (major swelling) and had another procedure done (?) to relieve the swelling. He will be wearing an e-collar for two weeks!!! I seem to be getting the ones with complications. I guess I'll be sleeping with this guy, too, to be sure he is ok at night.
It looks like there is already someone interested in this guy (no, no, no, I think I might want him...whispering). The man had lost his GSD from medical reasons (one of our rescue"s) and this guy looks like a good fit for him. (nonono).

    He's here!!!!!
Do you know how rare complications from neutering are? Of course I would be the one to have a dog who has complications! Bandit had to have surgery yesterday to relieve the swelling. I don't know what they called it (the surgical procedure). He is a mess. It LOOKS like it hurts. It is also bloody wherever he sits. Why do I always get the bloody dogs??? He is wearing an e-collar and is in the kitchen. The vet tech recommended he stay in the kitchen til the blood subsides. This evening, though, I think he will be joining us in the family room. He can see us in the family room from the kitchen, but I want him with us. All of the dogs got along great at intros. In fact, they all like each other!!! Uh oh, he might be a keeper! He is dying to run and play with them, but he is on rest for two weeks!!! This is going to be hard. He WANTS to play! And again, Shiloh keeps barking at him.

    Another bloody Sunday

I can't believe it. I think someone is trying to tell me not to foster. What is going on here?
Bandit previously had neutering surgery. He developed major swelling and bleeding, so they castrated him (ouch ). They gave him to me on Sat. morning with a little blood dripping. OK. Later in the afternoon it stopped. Sunday @ 6pm, it started bleeding big time this time. Of course this is Sun. and no vet. I called the rescue lady and their vet who talked me down from my hysterics. My husband put pressure on it and it helped. It doesn't look like any staples were removed, just leaking blood. What is it with bloody dogs and me???? This morning we took him back to their vet and they are keeping him boarded til he heals up enough not to give me another heart attack.
First Gaylord, now Bandit. I think I am getting a sign..... I know I am stressed and exhausted. Hubby says no more sick dogs.... Gotta go scrub my kitchen floors and rugs. Poor Bandit.

Another thing....now we are maybe thinking of keeping Bandit. That would mean no more fostering. (Can't handle 3 dogs and a foster all at once. ) What to do??? The family likes Bandit....Hubby says I must decide.....oh help! Sorry if this sounds like rambling..I slept on the kitchen floor with Bandit all night. I thought I got some sleep, but I sure don't feel like it. sigh

I second that!! Bandit sounds like a love, but you're the one that would be adopting him. I would write down all the pros and cons and weight each one and see who wins. Good luck. Do a little self hypnosis....that always helps me.

I just don't know what to do. He is a fantastic dog, but if I adopt him, then I can't foster anymore and more dogs will die. Help me!!

Here's a question for you. Could you adopt him, and do just short term foster?? I'm just concerned that you are going to get WAY to stressed with this fostering since they continually take advantage of the fact that you are willing to take the less than healthy dogs.

Molly, I couldn't handle four GSDs all at once, so fostering would be given up. I think it is just turning out that the dogs that are assigned to me just happen to have bad luck in the surgery dept. It is rare to have complications of neutering and Bandit did. Gaylord's tumor incision was compromised and he helped finish the job. My bad luck or a sign??

I really can't decide on what to do here. I wasn't expecting a dilemma so soon. My family doesn't help. They are the ones who are falling for these dogs. I am trying to look at the broad picture, they are looking at the individual dog. They are no help. Fostering is very hard.

Anyway, I've got to call and see how Bandit is doing at the vet. I hope he can tolerate sitting around (he has to, to get better). He is a more active dog. The vet is going to come in on New Years Day to check on him. The techs will be there otherwise. Poor baby.

Sue, maybe you should listen to your family. You may get out voted on this one! We tried fostering and we were miserable at it, so we gave up on that idea. I wouldn't want to be in your position.
