How wonderful! I'm excited for you and thrilled for them. So great!
I'm sometimes asked "Why do you spend so much of your time and money talking about kindness to animals when there is so much cruelty to men?" I answer: "I am working at the roots." -George T. Angell, reformer (1823-1909)

    WONDERFULL!!

Both that you won and that you're you!! What a great gift for the season; kinda warms the heart and wets the eyes. I liked the site, but couldn't get the "about us" link to open up. Will try another approach.

Of course I went and checked out the furfolks waiting for adoption, and wouldn't you know, the first one I see is "Reuben".
That's my best friend's husband's name. She is from Chicago originally!! Her dad was a preacher at a Baptist Church there. Now I'll tell her she has a reason to go "home" for the holidays, and bring Reuben back with her!!!

    Congratulations Sara,

The Red Door folks will be really pleased & thankful for the
gift to them. I checked out the Red Door site and saw a kitty
Mai Tai, who looks a lot like today's COTD Krista.

Maybe you should give the Lottery a second thought, huh?

Wow! That's fantastic!! I know they put their real address down because they don't want people dumping pets on their doorstep, can you tell me where they're at? I've already dropped off some food at other shelters near me in the Southwest suburbs, but I would be more than happy to give some to Red Door too if they aren't too far away.

The one shelter I gave to does cat adoptions out of PetSmart and dog adoptions out of a local animal hospital. Since I didn't want to drop already paid for food off at PetSmart, I went to the animal hospital. They had a really neat idea for gift giving which I thought I'd pass on. I know a lot of churches do this, but this is a different twist on it. There was a Christmas tree with ornaments on with pets names on them. On the back of each ornament was a "wish list" for that pet. You would pick an ornament, or two or three, and buy for that particular pet from his/her wish list.

I thought it was a neat way to make it a little more personal. Instead of buying for any general pet, you would be buying for "Rover" as an example.

Anyway, I'm sure Red Door will love you for this, Sara!

  13. Debbie...

The Red Door is at the corner of Lunt and Western in Rogers Park. Right next to Indian Boundary Park (and right up the street from the Chicago Harley store on Western which is how we found it in the first place!) It is kind of neat because it is an old store front so the cats (and sometimes bunnies) lounge around in the windows watching the traffic go by on Lunt! I lived in that neighborhood for many years but the shelter wasn't there at the time. They are remodeling/expanding and will be having an open house in January.

Edwina absolutely REFUSED the free food I brought her from the Pet Show so it all went to the Red Door. (And remember? I snagged TWO bags!)

Ooooh, now I know where it is.

Sounds neat. I love it when you go in a store or something and there sits a cat, just watching everyone come and go, acting like he/she owns the place. Maybe I'll wait until their open house, then it'll only be one trip up that way and I could spend a little more time - but then again maybe I shouldn't wait because the more time I spend the more likely I'll be bringing somebody home with me.

Thanks for the info and let me know when the open house is. Maybe we can meet up there and have lunch or something.
