Suggest a cat food for my cats

I have been feeding them the Purina Naturals for as long as I can remember. Tinky and Mama are getting a bit on the heavy side. Buddy is still pretty active for an old guy and is much thinner than the other 2.

Now that they are all adults I want to start giving them something better for their health and hopefully their weight.

    Any suggestions?

I feed my lot Royal Canin Fit 32 & Sensible 33. I like the mix because it has an immunity boost in one (fit 32) and is easily digestible (sensible). None of my cats are overweight and they are all free fed. Take into consideration that Bella spent the best part of her first year with very little food and tends to like to shovel it in the fact that she has a good weight says a lot about the food. It is not high in fat and it is very well balanced. They will get all they need and the extra of the immune system boost & high digestibility.

That's just my 2 cents worth.

    Pronature

I have been switching between Wellness and ProNature for the last several months. Both are grain free. My cats' teeth have improved to the point where they do not need teeth cleaning at the Vet. I don't have over eaters here, so there has never been a weight issue with them. I leave dry food down all the time.

I leave water in a glass, in the bathroom....for them...since they like to drink from glasses ......

I like the duck ProNature, the best.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for your responses! I am going to try the Wellness weight control first. Getting a small bag to make sure they will eat it.

OMG! I thought I had the only cat in the world who preferred to drink from a glass! That is Mac's preferred water source. I feed my crew Blue Wilderness Duck for their dry or Blue Indigo Moon dry. Both are grain free and, yes, my cats never need their teeth cleaned! I feed Wellness wet, chicken/herring or turkey/salmon. It's the one grain free wet they will all eat. Oh, they LOVE Blue Indigo Moon Tuna wet, also.

Switch to a grain free food and the weight will come off without you doing anything. I switched to Taste of the Wild 3 years back, and within 6 months they were all down (except Crystal, that is a separate issue).

Cats in the wild do NOT eat grains! (Unlike dogs, who do eat some grains) Read the ingredients label. Learn what to look for and what to avoid, here:

Thank you for that listing, Sandie. That is really full of helpful information.

CATS, he said eventually. CATS ARE NICE.

My co-worker has a cat that will only drink out of a dixie cup on the bathroom sink.

I switched to dry Taste of the Wild a couple of years ago, and I've been quite satisfied. Althea is tiny, so weight is not an issue. Blue has maintained his weight at around 14 pounds. Admittedly, I don't remember Mordred's last weigh-in, but I have noticed a definite increase in his activity since he's been on TOTW. Since he's 10 years old, I'm surprised when he actually *runs* around the house. His weight has been around 16 pounds (down from a high of 18).

They don't like TOTW canned (because it has chunks, and this crew likes only pate), so I recently discovered a wonderful canned food called simply "Dave's Cat Food." (They make dog food, too.) I spoke with the owners of my local pet store (no Petsmart or Petco in the area), and they're going to start carrying it. You can find it online. I found the waggintails.com had the best price - and Dave's is less expensive than the well-known premium brands. You might want to check it out.
